Mini excavotor for new garage addition?

I am looking into adding an attached garage to my home. I believe in NC I will probably need 15 inch wide footers at around 18 inches depth. I am planning on getting plans and then doing much of the work myself. I was wondering if a small excavator like the bobcat 322 would be capable of performing this digging task. I am looking for something that I can rent and pull with my trailblazer (5500 Lb max towing) So I think an excavator in the 3500 lb range plus trailer would be good. The area where the garage will go is flat lawn currently and other dirt moving can be done with the GC and box blade.

That's pretty narrow if you're blocking your footers. We don't like a trench narrower than 18" for block work. On a monolithic pour, 12 - 15" would be ok.

For the original question, yep that would most likely handle it. Barring unforeseen circumstances.

I was thinking monolithic even though the house is on a block foundation with brick facade. My B-I-L owns a concrete business and I don't think he does much with block. I will know more after I get the custom plans but I am just trying to price things out at this point to see what I can do versus paying someone else to do for me.
