I got some 3A modified stone delivered at the top of our hill. All the past rain has created a trench, so its pretty narrow to work with already. How would I go down a hill to dump stones without it tipping? Reverse?

Yes. Downhill loaded in reverse. Uphill loaded forward.
There have been lengthy discussion of how to travel up and down a hill with and without loads. I am an advocate of going downhill forward. My reasoning is that if I get into trouble and start sliding down the hill I want to be facing the direction of travel. I shudder to think of going downhill out of control backwards.
However you decide to go I would consider starting empty or will smaller loads until you get the feel of it.
