From what I could find, if you sell your hay is minibales to the home pet market, you get like $5 for a bale the size of a book or so.

You go to your local Meadow Farms (a landscaping company for those of you out of this area) and see the prices of a minibale around Halloween time?

At $5.00 a bale it would take between 2,000 and 3,000 bales to pay for the baler, and you'd still need all the other equipment needed to hay. Around here Home Depot sells the mini-straw bales for $7.99 each:thumbsup:.

I read in Farm Show a while back about someone who sells plans to make your own mini-baler. Probably kind of slow but a whole lot cheaper.

My little Takakita baler paid for itself with trashy hay for fall decorations. Women in town were giving 8 bucks a pop for them.

This is not a bad idea for small operation goat/sheep/horse people. Some of the folks buying my 4x4 bales don't even own a tractor, so moving them around is a choir. Even a full size square bale is a lot for some, so a mini bale has a nitch. I'm kicking the idea a round some.

So how many mini bales make up a regular square bale?

Or, you could just buy round bales, one at a time if storage is a problem, and re-bale it into mini bales. Anyone could do that without investing in any additional equipment. Think how many mini bales you could get out of one $30 round bale.
