Minneapolis Moline JetStar Water in the rearend and amplitorque.

I have lots of water in the gear case. Some water drains out and the grease is white. Is there supposed to be a seal or boot on the shift lever? I will remove the gear case cover today to see if the shifter has no seal which might be the culprit. I am now able to keep it under cover but would like to seal things up as much as possible.
