I just used a new Midwest "HD" boxblade for the first time yesterday, and I lost three of the seven teeth on it. It looks like they are just peened onto the scarifier bars from each side - and not very securely at that. I'm pretty amazed that they fell apart that easily - I wasn't really doing anything aggressive at all. One of the things I bought this Midwest box blade for was the fact that the teeth were replaceable - but I didn't think that meant I *had to* replace them after every use /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

My Kioti BB is made by Midwest, and I have had no problems with that happening. The pins, placed properly, should hold the rippers in place with no problems. Exactly what happened in your case? You say you "lost" three of them? Do you mean that the pins just came out and the rippers fell off? If that is what's happening, just buy some small hitch pins with the fold over ring to hold them on more securely, but the original clip pins should not just be coming off. Make sure you push them in good to where there are seated properly. Occasionally, I have had clip pins pulled out by brush, but it's been rare. John

I had tooth problems and I know Rozette ( ? ) had them also with the Midwest units branded by Corriher. We received new teeth. Something about a different tooth design for rocky areas ???? . The new teeth are much more rugged. Maybe that's still a problem ?? Give the dealer a call.

John, I think he is referring to the "tooth" part that is attached to the end of each ripper, not the ripper itself.

I have a Howse 5' box blade with 5 scarifiers. It has served me jes' fine in my rock laden soil, but late last year I finally lost a tooth, too. Hard to blame the implement, though. I was trying to dislodge a buried boulder which was just big enough to catch about two teeth. It was tough enough that I spun my wheels several times before I started making short "runs" at it. Backed off a couple feet and tried to snag it on the fly a few times. Finally got it out, but later noticed that one tooth was missing from the ripper. When I found it, I saw that it had been literally torn off (split the metal). Oops! /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

They're inexpensive replacements. Been meaning to get some spares. And then figure out how to put 'em on. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

That's the exact problem - the teeth on the end of the scarifiers just split in half and fell off. I'm going to call Corriher today about it...

When I got the new teeth from Corriher, I chose to weld them to the scarifiers. Our farm was primarily pasture for animals with little of it actually tilled. We are planting raspberries, blueberries, and Christmas trees. So I use the boxblade a lot to losen the soil and pull up the rocks and collect the slash left from the timber that was harvested. The welded teeth have worked very well, although I snapped a scarifier in half last week on a boulder. You can hardly detect any wear on the new teeth. I satisfied with the end result..... it does the job I need. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I thought of that earlier today. I guess that's what I get for trying to read these posts at 2am! Thanks, John

I'm probably going to weld mine onto the scarifiers, too. Those teeth came off way too easily in my opinion - but they're cheap to replace at only about $3 each.

The other problem you have is that the TN isn't a compact. I believe the drawbar pull is several times that of the largest compact and implements just seem to notice that... /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Not that I've bought many, but I've found implements sized for a TN cost a lot more than those for compacts.

box scraper shanks normally have knock on replacement points....It is not unusual for these points to come off..normally this happens when pushing in reverse...The easiest solution is to tack weld the points to the shank....
