I stopped at TSC today and picked up a new welding helmet lens cover. Mine looked to be in pretty sad shape. Just seeing through it at even the #9 darkness setting was getting to be a challenge.
I decided I'd install it tonight rather than worry about doing it tomorrow right before class. It was only after I'd disassembled my helmet face that I realized I'd bought the wrong size. I only saw one size so erroneously assumed that was what I needed.
Since I had everything apart anyhow I decided I'd see if I could clean up what I had. What a world of difference! I removed quite a layer of brown dust from both the inside of the replaceable lens and the face of the auto-darkening filter. I put the helmet on and the additional light that came through was incredible. I still want to replace the lens cover as mine is pitted, marred and scratched but I'll bet I gained at least two levels of light just from cleaning what I had. I'm setting the darkness level up threelevels for tomorrow night's welding class just to be safe to start. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
