Mitsubishi 2501D
Hi; New to the forum but have really enjoyed reading what you guys have to say. Very educational. I just recently purchased a Mitsubishi 2501D, but have not been able to use it for very long. It blew a head gasket and the seller is "supposed" to pick it up and repair it. Anyway, the little bit of work I did with a bottom plow confused me. It would not pierce the ground any deeper than 2" to 3" or so. This tractor does not seem to have a draft control, so my question to anyone willing to answer is....do I have to find a way to put weights on the equipment I use in order to get the depth I want?
Also, since I have not been real satisfied with the answers I get from the original seller, can anyone tell me where I can get manuals for this model? Thanks for your responses.

Have you ever used a turning plow before? Don't get me wrong, I am not trying to belittle you. A turning plow has to be set up just right to dig in correctly. Without the proper angle, sometimes they will skid across the top of the ground or want to go to China. Try adjusting your toplink so that the nose of the moldboard is pointing down a little more.

Hi, and thanks for the response. I have adjusted the toplink thru it's entire cycle and found that it did dig a little deeper at the sharpest angle, but that gave me only a couple of inches or so. That's why I thought about adding the extra weight. If I have to add weight, it won't be easy, since it is such a simple frame, shaped like a cross with the blade and an extension attached at the bottom. It can actually be carried by one person...though with some effort. This device was home-made by the guy who sold me the tractor. I expected it to be great at digging trenches for laying line or water runoff, but it just doesn't go deep enough. Anyway, I have placed the 3 pt hitch control to max depth and the blade at the steepest angle and that's all I came up with.

I do have experience with a moldboard plow. Before chisel plows appearred we plowed all of our ground. To make the first pass, the right lift arm has to be extended enough to get the right side of the plow lower than the left side by the amount of the furrow depth. On the second pass, since the right wheel should running in the furrow, the right arm is put back to the point where the plow bottom is level .

By his description (T shaped frame with blade and extension) I suspect that what he actually has is a potatoe plow, and not a moldboard. He also said it's home made, so it may just not be set up with the right angle to dig correctly without finding a shorter top link.
