Mitsubishi BD2H
Hello,
I am new to the forum. My Mitsubishi BD2H dozer was recently tipped over on its left side in an accident downhill, it ran for around 10 seconds at high throttle and I quickly choked the air intake after the fuel shutoff would not kill it, as it was likely running on oil.

After righting the tractor we let it sit for several weeks then I rotated the engine by hand after pulling the glow plugs and around 1/3 cup of oil came out of cylinders 3 and 4. After several hand rotations I started it and let it idle. It ran ok but oil was dripping out the exhaust. After test driving it I am getting clouds of blue smoke at revs, oil dripping out exhaust, and loss of around 1 quart of oil on the dipstick after several minutes.

I suspect oil got into the cylinders during the rollover and hydrolocked it causing at least 1 bent rod. The tractor ran great before this just mild oil burning. I have drained the oil now and it seems it had tiny metal shavings. Do you think I should pull the oil pan and inspect crank/ bearings? If I can get away with replacing rod(s)/bearings that would be ok at this point. It has a S4S non turbo engine. Thanks in advance!

I am not an expert and I'm sure those that know way more will add their expertise and opinions.

In your attempt to play it safe, are you sure you are not misinterpretting the data?

You will need to burn off the oil in the exhaust, and that will take a little time.

Every engine dipstick goes down when the engine is started and oil is dispersed.

How many hours on the engine? The metal may have nothing to do with this event.

Your title indicates it runs rough, but your description says it runs fine???

Not that it really matters, but a picture would be appreciated.

I have attached a picture of the dozer and hope it works but unfortunately did not take any pics after the accident. It is in a remote location and will have to take pics this weekend when I go.

Yes, I am trying to play it super safe as I have quite a love affair with the old girl which has been good to me for over 10 years. I just want to prevent any possibility of causing irreparable damage to the crank/ bottom end if I can. My initial plan was to put new oil/filter this weekend and run it good and try to burn off excess oil but if you guys feel there is a safer step I will try that first. Thank you!

BTW it has unknown hours, hour gauge was dead at around 3000 when I got it. Power wise it runs maybe just a little less smooth than before but I guess its mainly the clouds and drips of oil that has me scared.

She looks like a handy machine.
How do the rubber tracks compare to steel in mud and snow?
