2008 Kubota M7040 4WD w/loader, 1979? Mitsubishi D2600 4WD w/loader
It is not really the cluch that is the problem. It is a Mitsubishi D2600 (30hp) tractor that is an early 80s model I believe. When I went out to use it this afternoon it started up fine but when I pushed in the cluch peddle it didn't feel right (to soft) and when I tried to put it in gear it ground as if I hadn't pushed the cluch in. This makes me think it is not the cluch itself but the linkage or something and the cluch is not disengaging.

Any ideas what it is that is broken or not working right?

Thanks, Ed

I bought an old Kubota B6000 that did the same thing. The clutch was actually dragging a little bit on the flywheel because it had a bit of corrosion, and no lubrication whatsoever. There should be an access point where you can stick a grease gun in and lubricate the bearing with a couple pumps of grease. Work the pedal several times, maybe give it another half pump. If it still drags, you can sometimes break it free by pushing against a tree or using a really heavy-pulling implement and try to push against it while riding the clutch more and more. You want to break free all the corrosion that is holding the disk against the flywheel. Don't abuse your clutch, but let it clearly slip somewhat. With the grease, hopefully that will allow the mechanism to free itself up.

I guess I didn't explain very well. The cluch peddle does nothing. To move the tractor I would have to start it in gear or jam it into gear without the cluch (very bad) so I can't really push against anything or slip the cluch. I will look for a place to lubricate the bearing and do that if I can find it.

I still think that's the most likely situation. If it worked fine before, and sat for awhile, it's virtually impossible something broke just sitting. It's a lot more likely that it got some moisture in the bellhousing and corroded some, and keeps the clutch from disengaging. I bet if you start it in gear and lower the loader or dig into the ground with the scraper or something, and press down on the clutch, it will slip. When it happened to my tractor, that's what I did.

I had it out the Saturday before last brush hogging so it has been lest than two weeks. It is also parked in a barn out of the weather. I will try pushing on something and see what happens. Thanks

Ok, I went out and tried pushing against an immoveable object and with the cluch peddle pushed all the way in (it shouldn't move like this) it dug three nice holes, both back tires and one front. I let it spin for 10+ seconds and then parked it again.

I looked and didn't find anywhere to grease the bearing. Where should I be looking for this?

Understand I've never even seen a D2600, let alone repaired one's clutch, but the principles are the same. On my machine, there was a port on the left side of the transmision tunnel that, by shining a flashlight in, I could see the grease zerk to lube the transmission shaft.

Since you tried the standard method for unsticking a clutch, I don't really know what to tell you. It doesn't make sense that it broke just sitting there. Is there a linkage pin missing somewhere? The pedal isn't moving the clutch, obviously. If it is really light, maybe you're just pressing against the return spring for the pedal.

The clutch fork may have a roll pin that has corroded/broken off that is keeping the pedal from moving it. At this point, you have to do some systematic tracing of linkages and see what is visible from underneath. After that, the only choice is to split the tractor. :(

I couldn't find any holes big enough to get a grease gun in but there is a loader frame that could block it.

We went out tonight and the cluch peddle is moving everything like it should up till in goes into the trans and then who know what it does. I posted this in the main owning/operating forum Here where there should be more people.

It is sounding like it will need to be split to find the problem.:(

Thanks for your help.

Update. We ended up taking it to a shop. It turned out the clutch was VERY worn. So much so that when they took it out half of the lining that was left fell off and two of the 8? "tabs" that the lining attach to came off. The pressure plate was fine though and they got a new clutch put in and it now works well.

As a side note. This model, D2600 FD, has a double throw out bearing which I had not known.
