Mitsubishi K43 diesel engine seial number Location

I have a Mitsubishi K4E diesel engine in my excavator. On the top right hand side of the block in casting letters it says "K4E 1.415L". It also has a "0618N" casting number on the block beside the oil filter.
I need a head gasket for it. Does anyone know where the engine serial number it located on the K4-series diesel.

My K4E has a metal tag attached to the top of the valve cover.

No metal tab on mine. The motor is still in the machine so it is hard to see anything. If I knew where to look it would be a great help.
I know I can buy any K4E series head gasket for it, but they vary in thickness depending on what application the motor is used for (generator, excavator, pump, etc.). That difference in thickness could affect the performance of the motor if the wrong one is chosen.

Do you have a manual for the engine? It should give you the location in there. What machine is the engine in? A dealer may be able to help The "1.415L" is the engine displacement = 1.415 liters. The serial number would be a stamped number on a flat surface, not a cast in number. I won't be at my machine for a week, so I can't verify where it is on the block.

No manual. The dealer asked the same questions you did. The engine in this machine is a replacement motor. The K4E series Mitsubishi motor was used by many different equipment manufacturers, each having their own parts code numbers for the same parts (Eg: Caterpillar use the Mitsubishi motors but you need the Cat number) that's why the stamped serial number is needed for the proper application. This stamped number is what I am looking for but because of the very cramped space it is difficult to find, hoping someone knows where to look.

I have the OEM Mitsubishi manual. I'll check it tonight. I believe it will also have the OEM head gasket p/n for the excavator engine. No part numbers.

By the way, the motor was painted after the number was stamped. Even knowing where it was, it was difficult to see. Again, I appreciate your assistance.
