Looking for a compact tractor for a 13 yr old to learn the use of tractors to eventually use full size. Something comparable to a Jinma 254/284 in either brand, e.i. Mitsu or other Asian made, about 25 hp.
I have read a lot about the Jinma's problems and fixes, which I can handle. Have not read too much about Misubishi tractors to compare them. So for those who are familiar with both or any other Asian tractors, how does Mitsubishi hold up compared to the other imports? And the 2 cylinder engine, how smooth and power output. Are parts available for the Mitsubishi? It seems like Jinmas have several parts dealers and just about everything is available. How about the Mitsus?

I would think that any Japanese tractor like the Yanmar, Zen-Noh etc, is better than a Chinese, but then I never had either. (Current inventory a 5525 Mahindra and MF 165)

this is quite a tough question for me.i have used a yanmar and a mitsubishi.but not for any long period.the yanmar was 2 cylinder diesel.it was noisier than the mitsubishi. i guess the best way to go will be the dollars spent and the features recieved. if u can get a lot of features for your dollar the machine may be worth your while regardless of the name.yanmar and deere may have interchangeable parts in some cases.from what i read a while back deere is manufactured by yanmar.and if u have a deere u may want to go yanmar to shop at the same dealer.my 2 cents

I would have concerns about putting a 13 year old on a tractor. They can be dangerous machines to operate.Even if they have all the safety equipment that some have. There mave been folkes with many years experence killed on tractors

I would recommend a good Japanese tractor to a Chinese tractor any day. They are so much better quality & if taken care will last a long time.

Then I guess you don't want to hear about how at 4, I used to sit on my mom's or dad's lap and steer, at 7 was driving tractors around the yard by myself, at 10 was plowing, discing, raking hay, and by 12 operating the baler and combine...again by myself. We're talking late 60s and early 70s here with equipment that dated back as far as the late 30s (9N).

The point I'm trying to make is "It depends upon the 13 year old." I was raised to respect the machinery, and fully understood the dangers if I didn't engage my brain before engaging the clutch.

Yes, many experienced people do indeed get injured or killed every year in farm ralated accidents. But if you look at the actions leading up to these events, I believe you'll find that one or more of the individuals involved had become complacent in their equipment operation - i.e. leaving pto running when trying to clear a jam.

I just think that a 13 yr old child doesn't have the experence to get out a bad situation . There are a high # of chrildren that are killed on atv's each year & an atv doesn't come close what a tractor can do . It's his child he can do what he wants

well lets hope this does not end it tragedy. there are lots of safety features on riding mowers that a 10 yr old could use.but these compact tractors may not have these and are so much stronger.under proper supervision a 13 yr old could operate it safely.but we are straying from the issue here.the chinese tractor vs mitsubishi or japanese tractors.the chinese tractors may be easier to start in the cold weather and may be cheaper.i know that a nortrac at northern tools cost about 15 grand with loader delivered new.a used mitsubishi with loader may cost 10 grand.and u have to add the roll bar and other safety features.

When I bought mine the same dealer also sold chinese. I inquired about the chinese & the dealer said to go with the japanese instead of the chinese. The japanese tractors have been around some 20-30 yrs and have stood the test of time. Mose of the chinese tractors have only been here a few yrs. Yanmar & Zen-noh are one in the same. My yanmar has Zen-noh decals. Yanmars also come with all the safety features that the other japanese tractors don't have & may not be able to get. I have never had a problem with cold starts as I have a thermo start kit on my tractor. If you get the right yanmar , you shouldn't have a problem with parts
