Mixer attachment for old Ford

I came across this odd vehicle while camping last week in the Sierras. My wife asked me if that was a Ford tractor, to wit I replied tongue in check, that it was a cement mixer attachement for a Ford 8n. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Syncro Ford made several powerunits like that and used the same model tractors hood as the engine to cover them. Down in the delta they are common around the rice fields for pump running. That one probably had the transmission intact to run the drum backwards to unload it. I had a friend that bought one similar to that one at a TVA auvtion once but it was on a single axle trailer pulled on a 5th wheel behind a single axle 2 ton truck. He also had a simial on that had an AC power unit that sat on a truck bed and had pokets it sat down in and a place for a 4 part choker. it was left running and the cranes would drop rigging and they would hoist the whole unit up make a pour and reset it and get the others. He said they were comon back in the early daysand he gave a scrap price for them. I think he sold them to a collector in TN. I do remeber seeing the trailer truck make a few pours while he had it. THey wer pre hydrostatic drive days. a pto pump would have been damaged plus the to wouldnt stand being run like that down the road. Neat find you have there. Is that a Koerhing or a unit crane in the background?

Thanks for the info, I had no idea this was such a common usage for those early Fords. This particular unit had a fresh batery so I presume its still used. There was a LOT of old equip at this spot, including several cable D-7's. Most of which seemed to be still in limited use, or at least in running condition including the attached pic of an old dump truck my wife is leaning against.

<My neighbors had a large company once several 6's 7's and HD 16 through 21 dozers and a fewe draglins and gradall. One day they had a scraper that was an AC that was retired It had a load of dirt in it and a 10 inch diameter pine tree growing in it. THey cut the tree and dumped the stump put and went to work lol. That looks like and old FWD truck or maybe and IHC.
