Has anyone heard or tried this? There is a lot of talk about on a diesel truck for I read. The majority of the responses have been very positive. Better MPG, easier cold starts, and quited the engine. Seems about 1oz. of TCW-3 ashless to every 2 gallons of ulsd is the mixture... I would post a link to other forum for all to read but was not sure if it was "legal".....

I've done it with gasoline cars and other 4 cycle gasoline engines over the years with no harm.

I did have a couple of two cycle cars (Suzuki and Saab) once but that's another story!

I seriously doubt you would have any problems doing it on a pre-2007 emissions engine. On 2007 and later OTR diesel engines however it could cause problems with the particulate trap filter and unless the oil is CFR certified it could also be illegal. Why not just use a good fuel additive that is made for it? With a mix ratio of 1 oz to 2 gallons when using 2 cycle oil compared to 1 oz to 8-16 gallons of diesel fuel additive the fuel additive will also be a lot cheaper to use.

I am still out on this one .... too much oil seems to ****** combustion (at start up for me) does seem to run smooth though once running; can't tell any real performance gain. I quit using it and went back to diesel additives.

What diesel truck forum are you talking about? Yes it seems to be the rage these days. I frequent dieselplace dot com. Down in the fluids forum a member is doing a lubricity study to see some real world comparisons and let us ordinary people see how the additives kinda stack up. It should help answer the question is 2 stroke helping or not. No it won't be definative but be some hard real world test data to argue the benefits where as now its a bunch of rumors and wives tales as to what ratio to mix. Its a really long thread with 19,000 plus views so you can tell many are interested in the subject. Take a look and hope it helps.

Guess I'm visiting the same forum as you-
Sounded logical to me, I've been adding the 2 stroke for a couple of years into my 1998 12v Dodge P/U, and 1715 NH. No harm done, that I can tell, and my P/U MPG usually was better whenever I remembered to add the oil.
I now try to add a quart of 2 stroke oil to 20 gallons of ULSD in my 2002 Dodge, and ditto for the 15 gallon container I store diesel for my TC33DA. I don't think it is necessary for the dyed diesel, as the sulphur hasn't been removed, but now & then I have to buy the ULSD for my tractor. (weekend availability)

I check the fuel mileage on my P/U at every fill-up; got into this habit when I was a company driver, and it was part of my job. Adding the oil has consistantly shown me an increase of .5 or better mpg. Not an earth shattering increase, but I think I'm helping to lubricate the fuel system also.

Do you actually live in an area where the dyed diesel is still high sulfur? Ours .. at least from our suplier is all the same diesel.. except one has less taxes and more dye..

There is no more of the super polluting foul high sulfur off road diesel fuel.

The off road diesel fuel now is low sulfur diesel (ie it is the same 500ppm LSD sulfur max conc. that on-road diesel had been for the last 15 years or so before on-road was changed to ULSD 15ppm sulfur).

Of course, allot of it is contamined or adulterated ULSD that is illegal to sell on-road but legal to sell for off-road.....just add red dye to it and sell it off-road.

I run it in my 12v cummins dodge. The motor is a lot smoother and quieter.
As for as the "diesel" additives you can buy, none that I know of are made to add lube to the fuel like 2 stroke oil will. Run it in the kubota, didnt seem to make a big differance like it did in the truck. It smoothed the dodge out so much that when 1st used it and let up off the throttle I thought the engine had quit running!

I've heard of adding 2 stoke oil to diesel, but I've never tried it. I know of a diesel mechanic who swears by automatic transmission fluid. He adds a quart to a 10 gallon tank of diesel. Says it helps with lubricity, and this was long before ULSD. Anybody tried this?

I've heard of diesel mechanics pouring used motor oil, transmission fluids, and hydraulic fluids of every imaginable composition and make into their diesel fuel to supposedly increase lubricity. Also understand they often pour used brake fluids into their fuel to keep the moisture level down too. Some even add low-test gasoline to their diesel fuel to reduce the cetane level so low that the engine loudly clanks and smokes like a diesel did back in the good ole days. I imagine some diesel mechanics have even poured used battery acid into their diesel to help clear clogged injectors. One time I even heard that they poured used windshield wiper fluids into their diesel fuels to recycle that too.

That doesn't mean that I going to do what any of these diesel mechanics have been doing to their diesel engines all these years though.... :D
