I am very early in discovery stage of the tractor decision making process and am wondering what I should expect to pay for a MMM. I don't have the field of tractors narrowed down yet, I know that complicates the issue but it will be a SCUT or CUT. My existing JD277 (2001 model) has a 48" deck and works well so long as the grass is not to long. If the cost of the MMM is a wash with what i could expect to get for the JD277 then I may elect to keep it and forgo the MMM.

I currently mow a total of about 1.5 acres (2 properties, mine and my mother-in-laws). Both properties have a significant ditch at the street. My goal is to purchase a larger parcel in the future but how far in the future is anybodys guess.

Thanks in advance for the input.

I forgot to add that I would be interested in either a 54" or 60" deck. If I bought acreage I would consider a 72".

My guess is that mmm's for sub-cuts run around $1500-$1700 while mmm's for their CUT brothers run more perhaps $2500 or more.

Unless you have other work for a tractor (other then mowing), I suggest you wait to buy a tractor when you purchase that larger parcel. You'll have a better idea of what you need then.

That said...if you really want a tractor now, I'd look into a Kubota B7510 or another machine of that size. That Kubota was the first tractor I looked at, and would have been a great fit for my 2½ acres. I'd of bought it, but I got a really good deal on a Deere 670 (a little bigger then the B7510, but the same power). The B7510 (or equivalent) would be a good fit up to 4 or 5 acres.
If you want a MMM, get it when you buy the tractor...you'll get a better deal. I'd want a 60" mower.

As far as your LX277, $2500 is the median asking price I see on Used Farm Equipment & Agricultural Equipment - John Deere MachineFinder.com. These are dealer prices, so expect to go a bit lower (depending on condition), but I'd start off asking $2500.

Thanks for the replys. I am in the early stages of the whole process and keeping all options open.

when looking for my CUT i was set on getting a MMM... (when i mow i love it, when i work in gooy mud with the FEL i hate it)

priced from both kubota and NH, both listed a 72" MMM at ~$3K

but the MMM on a NH is a SERIOUS hunk of welded plate, not just a stamped piece of sheetmetal like on SCUT's which would account for some of the diffrance in price.

i found virtually no price diffrence in used machines that had a MMM.
