I have access to a RCK60B-22BK that has the gearbox removed. It is from an estate sale so I know nothing about it other than it is likely broken.

The gears appear to be in decent shape. Is there a rebuild kit for these? Is it pretty straight forward to rebuild one?

I can post up some pictures of whats going on with if anyone knows these fairly well. I'm not near it now or I would already have them on here.

Alternately, I have been looking for a 54" deck for it and these seem to be a bit tougher to find. Any suggestions on locating one other than "keep looking?"

Thanks

Just take the gearbox off, take it to your local Kubota dealer and they can rebuild it for dirt cheap.

It's really not hard to do yourself, but it can be challenging if you don't have the right tools.

While you are at it, change the belt and check the spindle bearings. Now might be an opportune time to change them.

When you get the gearbox rebuilt, I recommend changing the gearbox oil every ~25 hours. It doesn't take a lot of oil either. You can get quite a few changes out of a bottle of the gearbox oil.

I change mine often, and haven't had an issue.

The reason I change it more than an other gear box is because it is spinning at 2500 RPM. Much faster than 1000/540 RPM gearboxes.

Thanks for the info. $900 isn't much less than they want for a brand new one. I guess it never hurts to drop by and see how much they would want to rebuild mine. I could probably find a used deck for a bit less than $900 as well.

Good info on changing the oil in there. The low capacity also probably isn't a good thing if there is a tiny leak either.

There are a couple of youtubes on rebuilding a kubota gear box, doesn't appear too complicated.

Local Kubota dealer parts guy says they get several gear boxes each year burned up because all the oil leaked out the bottom seal.

Wondering if adding some 000 grease , STP or Lucas oil thickener would keep that from happening.

Had a Bush hog RFM that leaked oil out of vent, dealer replaced with 000 lube. Ran it for a couple of years with no problem.

The local dealer here said the same thing. He mentioned that the blade would just sling it everywhere so there was no puddle left as a warning it was leaking.

Definitely something worth checking occasionally to prevent expensive damage!
