Just a FYI thread... I bought a barely used MMM for $1000 yesterday. The bottom of the belt was slightly damaged as if it was rubbing on something - upon futher investigation i found that as the belt vibrated it would rub on the idler pulley bracket ever so slightly. The sharp corner was damaging the lower part of the belt. I simply broke/ "rounded" the sharp edge amd tightened the belt a bit more. Also sharpened the blades, greased, checked gearbox oil, and ordered a spare belt to have around. Seems like a good quality deck.

They are good heavy duty mower decks. Wear parts are the blades and eventually the wheels. I think I may have replaced the belt once, but the blades every year. Do your maintenance, and it will last years.

Ditto blackd. Mine's held up very well; got 6+ years out of the blades (OK, they were pretty rough at the end:eek:) but am putting new ones on for next year. Have a spare belt, but so far haven't needed it.

A couple of things you might consider:

1) a set of wheel/axles to allow for vertical storage of the deck. The "store-bought" ones are a bit pricey, but fit & work well. Also very handy for servicing blades, not just for winter storage.
2) Initially I was only trying to make the tractor/MMM fit in my available parking space, but after removing the output flapper-damper thing I found that the deck will scatter clippings beautifully, leaving no windrows. Also works well for blowing leaves off driveway in the fall-- it really creates quite an air blast.

Yours MUST be newer than mine-- I can't believe how many of those yellow warning stickers yours has all over it!!

$1000 was a great price! You'll be very pleased, I bet, with the quality of the cut this thing does, too.

What do you mean by wheels for storage??

Yes, precisely. The axles/wheels replace the MMM rear non-swivel wheels. The ones I bought were made commercially, but some have made their own. MMM rear wheels removed, slide in the axle, then put the wheels onto the axle. After that, the MMM can be stood up on its rear edge. While in storage, I use a pice of 1" rubber heater hose to slip over the driveshaft to protect it & keep it clean.

Reviving old(er) post here... where did you get the wheel set you use for vertical storage of the deck? This is a fantastic idea I could really see taking off

This is where I got mine, but I like the larger diameter wheels on the set above by fxdb96; my small diameter wheels (solid plastic) are fine on concrete but a bit iffy on anything rough or soft. Even on concrete, a small stone will stop them dead in their tracks. OTOH, they are quite stable.

Dang, you just got me to spend 100 bucks! I too picked up a 2325 off CL for 600 bucks but hated how it needed to be stored.

Well, yeah, those wheels & axles were pricey, but being able to slide the MMM against the back wall in my garage for winter storage is well worth it, I think. In the long run, a drop in the bucket -- I'm sure that tractor and its implements will outlive me.

They're also very useful for standing the thing up to get at the blades for removal & sharpening. (But be sure to torque the blades down properly when re-installing!)
