I have a new 4310 that I got with a 60 MMM. Coming from a 445 lawn and garden tractor I didn't give much thought to the 72 MMM. I mow about 5 acres now. Most of which is open but there are some trees and other objects. Considering upgrading and have a price in hand. Short of cost I was debating with myself as to why one might want a 60 MMM on this size compact over the 72?

The 72 would reduce mowing time in the open areas. Less seat time could be a draw-back. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Thoughts?

There are a couple of reasons I went with the 60" deck on my 4300. First, the 60" deck is made of heavier steel than the 72" one. The 60" uses 7 gauge steel where the 72" is 9 gauge. Second, the 60" deck has a higher blade tip speed that the 72" which should provide a better cut. Third, the 60" deck weighs a little less than the 72" and with the soft ground I have every bit of flotation is needed. Fourth, the 60" costs a little less than the 72". Finally, and most importantly, mowing with the 60" will give your more seat time. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif All that being said, if I had a larger lawn to cut I would probably have gone with the 72".

I "ditto" what MJB said. But I have one comment, the larger deck will allow you to cut out over an edge that slopes off a litle more safely. I see that everytime I get out the string trimmer.
