Can someone explain to me how the MMM pto shaft sleeve on a BX works. I have tried pulling it and it seems to move a little but i'm not sure how to actually get the shaft disconnected from the tractor. Thanks for help.

There is a spring loaded collar on the pto shaft that must be retracted enough for the shaft to slide off the pto.
Sounds like you have not pulled it back far enough or maybe one side is not retracted as much. Either way, you would wind up not able to disconnect it.

yes, but it is very light and will spring "shut" easily. I just found this, this past weekend and made the re-install much easier! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

It might be a little tight if new. Best to lay on your back so you can see the drive shaft. Then pull back on the collar toward the front of the tractor. The drive shaft should disengage from the splined shaft. When putting it back on, set the PTO lever in the rear position so the center PTO drive is not engaged. This will help to get it back on the tractor. Also some spray lube will also help. If it separates from the MMM, there is a specific way that it has to be put back together. If you look at it closely, you will see that there is a weld dot at the end, so it will only go back together one way. This is to keep the U joints properly phased.. Junk..

Probably everyone but me knew this: I found that if I re-attach the PTO shaft BEFORE I attach the mower pins, there is a lot more room to maneauver under there. With the mower on the ground, it gives me a couple of inches more clearance to reach in.

Everyone has their favorite way of installing and removing the MMM. For me, it is a pain no matter how many times that I do it. It must be an age thing... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Excellent point Ron, I too made that "discovery" on install number 3 or so.

If you keep the PTO coupler clean and lightly lubed, it will function much better. Take the time when you remove the deck to wipe down the driveshaft and examine the slpines (Look for the weld dot that Junk pointed out) and try the coupler you will see how it works and the re-install will go much better.

If you put a dot of white (or your favorite color) paint on the female splined part of the drive shaft finding the location of the welded dot will be a lot easier for reassembly. If you want to get real fancy, you can also cut a groove in the end with a file. We all have our own personal way of making reference marks, so I will leave it to the imagination of the reader to understand what the poster is trying to convey.
