Kubota BX 23 S
Hello all! I'm new to tractors, and have a brand new BX23S. I'm planning to remove my MMM and service it this week. I have some Kubota grease already loaded in my grease gun. I think it is the multipurpose, but I can't remember. I just know it's thick and black. I was just wondering if this grease was safe to use on my spindles, pto shaft, etc???? I have 31 hours on the machine, and have not greased the deck yet. I want to do this asap!!!

Many times new equipment comes ungreased or not greased enough as dealers don't fill the voids up with grease. For the first greasing, I keep going until I can see it or hear it come out so I know it is filled. Any grease is better than no grease.

Also, check your gearbox to make sure it has enough oil! That's one thing people forget about all the time. I would think that by now it would've been making some harsh noises, but you never know.

Don't get grease on the belt either.

When do you grease the spindles, clean each zerk before giving it grease by wiping it down with a clean rag. You don't want a clog or dirt getting in the bearings.

One last thing to grease are the stabilizers and any other grease zerk you see. Those usually only require 3 or 4 pumps, unlike the spindles.

Finally, I recommend getting either a pneumatic gun or a cordless gun. Makes it a lot easier and more enjoyable, especially if you have a loader and other implements.

Black Kubota grease in the tube would be moly-fortified.
Good stuff-excellent choice!
Good Luck!

Most times a moly grease is a high-speed grease that is good for spindles and mower bearings. A person may want a thicker grease for simple pivot points and mower deck rollers. For a homeowner, just being greased is the main thing. The dealer that took my tractor in on trade loved seeing evidence that I greased the equipment (messy). The mess can be cleaned off, worn out bearings and pivots are much worse.

My buddy has a cordless grease gun. It’s pretty sweet for greasing a bunch of equipment but for only a little tractor it’s about a waste. I could think of things I need worse for the money.

I always used a manual grease gun and had trouble getting new cartridges going. With a cordless one its much easier and was worth the money to me. My tractor is a BX and it wasn't to bad using a manual grease gun but I wouldn't go back.

I recommend Kubota grease, Mobil 1 synthetic grease, or my favorite Mystik No2 JT6.

It's up to you on the grease guns, but like most said, it's nice to have -- BUT not necessary.

Before I got mine, I had a large grease gun, and it was OK for small jobs, but now that I got a collection of stuff that has a zillion zerks (pun intended), it's nice to have.

I recommend the Lock N Lube lever operated grease gun head that clips on the zerks. The anti-scalp wheels on the BX MMM are notorious for pulling out. This has eliminated my periodic cussing and flinging grease guns into the yard.
