Ten ton or so. 5 ton CA-6 "mixed" with 5 ton of 3/4" clear.

the CA-6 he had a lot of fines in it so i had him add the 3/4" clear to give me some more large material. He would put one scoop of ca-6 then one scoop of 3/4 clear in the truck and so on.

CA-6 was $15 a ton
3/4 clear was $17 a ton

no delivery fee on 10 ton or more. or if i haul 2 ton at a time in my dump truck.

I just had a 12-ton load of road base quoted from a local guy for $190. He only had a bobtail dumptruck and I wanted someone with a bobtail and pup so I could get more rock per trip. I'm supposed to hear from another fellow this week. He's been visiting relatives in Mexico and will be back on Monday. It's about 19 miles from the crusher to my house, so the haul distance isn't great. If I can get a bobcat and pup hauled, I'll get two trips of roadbase and two of 3/4" washed rock. I'm guessing that the loads will probably run $300-$350 each based on my previous quote of a single bobtail load.

Steve, your rock looks good, but one load doesn't go too far. I always seem to find a use for more gravel than I can afford to get hauled.

I have forgotten how much weight in a cubic yard, but the last time I bought any was May 14, 1997, and I paid an even $400 for 36 yards of road base; three truck loads and he had to haul it from 35-40 miles away. Prices of everything have gone up a bit since then.:D

Ten ton or so.+
The best stuff I've found for my drive way is slag from a local steel producer.
Works better than any stone or gravel i've ever seen or used.
it's cost less per ton and is lighter weight so you get more per ton .
A ten ton pile of it would be about 1 and a half times larger than this pile and at $4.00 per ton would cost $40.00 plus tax picked up at the yard.
The last time i bought any was a year or so ago i paid around $3.65 a ton for it and went and picked it up myself.

Wow, that's a deal! I need a bunch but the delivery fee is more than the material.

That Mill Slag has gone up to $19.95/ton for #57 and the #8 Mill Slag is now $42.0/ton since they shut down all the steel mills here in the Ohio Valley. The Limestone is about $9.50/ton and one place has soft stuff that turns to mud in a year but the other has pretty decent stuff. The hauling costs now with the fuel is nearly as much as the stone. Used to be able to buy that stuff really cheap but like everything else prices have gone up and mainly because of fuel to mine/crush/haul the stuff.

That don't seem like too bad a price though delivered. On new driveways I always try to talk the customer into putting fabric down first then 4 - 6 inches of #4's/57's stone and a nice topcoat of mill slag and they have a driveway that will be good for many years. Expensive at first but way cheaper down the road.

We got two tandem loads of crusher run limestone delivered last summer. The trucking was killer, cost over $700 for the 2 loads, I think about 20 tonne each load.

BUT, the lane and parking area is SO much better now and it was fun seat time spreading it. I figure every 10 years I'll have to re-gravel them so it's not too bad on an annual basis.
