Come on now. You didn't expect them to leave it the same for more than a month did you? That would be to easy on us. :)

I checked the specs on the Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck 5W/40 and it looks like it has the same spec's as the Delvac synthetic. So they must have renamed the original Truck and SUV oil to Turbo Diesel Truck and made a new formulation for the Truck and SUV.

Don't worry. By the time you figure out what they changed it will be different next month.
My local store still has the original T&SUV. I am sure that they renamed it so that more of the diesel pickup owners would buy it. I got a really good deal when I picked up those gallons and then they restocked with the same thing. I 'm not so sure that they know what they are doing. Have the stores in other areas of the country changed to the 5-30 on T&SUV or do some of you still have stores with the 5-40 /T&SUV like mine?

"JD says their 0w40 oil is a pure synthetic. And that its made from synthetic base stocks. I don't think that is a blend."

I dunno:confused: ....I looked at a 5 gal bucket at the JD dealership, and it said it was a blend. The parts guy agreed that it was, and that was all they had for syn. oil.

'
Where you looking at the 0w40 oil? Based on the price I guess you where! The JD website says synthetic base stocks yada yada yada. Or maybe the price was so high no body was buying! :D

Or maybe the oil formulation has changed from what is in stock. Seems like I just read a thread where that happened to some other oil.....

;)

You should be using synthetic all year. Mixing synthetic and a little bit of dino with each change every season will negate some of the benefits of using a synthetic. Better to change to synthetic and stay with it.

I've been able to get Mobil 1 in 15w50, 5w30, 0w40 and, for a short period, 5w40 at various times. Couldn't find 5w40 this last time to change oil for my diesel Benz. Used 5w40 Rotella synthetic. For some reason, Benz recommends 40w at operating temperature. For the first change to synthetic in it, I couldn't find either 5w40 or 0w40; so, I mixed 15w50 and 5w30 Mobil 1 for that first change synthetic to get approximately a 10w40, which is the dino oil I'd been using in it for years.

I use 5w30 Mobil 1 in my JD and in all my other engines. In some of the air cooled ones run only in hot weather, I'll put 15w50 in them.

I agree 110%, That's all I use. I use Amsoil 15w 40 . I use to use mobil but their tech dept. won't give out as much info as I wanted & amsoil will so, I switched.Amsoil has a pour point of - 42 degrees which, Shouldn't be a problem to start a tractor in most places of the country.Doesn't matter about brand as long as it is a good synthetic. Beware ! There are so called synthetic oils out there that aren't true synthetics

I run Mobil Delvac 1 5W40 synthetic all year. I would much rather start on 5W in the winter rather than 15W. It is readily available in 1 gallon containers at my local GMC dealer. Any medium/heavy truck dealership should have it readily available at a reasonable price.

you shouldn't have any lubrication problems with a synthetic 15w40 because of the superior start up protection of synthetic but, If I were where you are I would probably use 5w30 with a pour point of - 50 deg.

Hi Maine Polack, you say you "want" to use 15-40. Hey, I've been technically into synthetic oils for many years. Here's my recommendation: If you go with Mobil 1, use 0w-30. It's available at Wal-Mart, and will afford you BETTER fuel economy. Yes, Mobil 1 is an excellent product. Redline, Amsoil, and Royal Purple are probably a little better, but at a cost. If price were NO object, my choice in your situation would be Red Line 5w-30.

I use Red Line in my airplane, and Mobil 1 0w-20 in my car and truck. The upper number is not as crucial with true syn as it is with petroleum based oil. In other words, a syn top number of 30 protects very well even in hot ambient temps; where as with dyno oil you might want a 40 top number.

As for the bottom number, a good lightweight 0-20 or 0-30 synthetic will circulate on cold morning start-ups SO fast; it really fights friction and protects internal engine parts immediately.
