Mobley users - heads up ZTE is not to be trusted according to intel officials

Intelligence Agency officials are warning Americans against buying phones from the Chinese companies Huawei and ZTE due to concerns they could be used to spy on people.
FBI Director Chris Wray said Tuesday that there is a risk in letting companies with strong ties to the Chinese government operate within the U.S. telecommunication infrastructure, CNN reported.

It wouldn't surprise me that there is a LOT of stuff from overseas that has some ability for the manufacturer or foreign government to gather info about us. My thought is that pretty much everything you do online is subject to public exposure at some point anyway and, other than a financial loss, I accept that and don't get too spun up over the possibility. Things I do online related to finances are protected by credit card fraud protection for the most part. And if there was some effort underway to attack my bank account and steal my money via scraping info from my Internet connection I'd wager that it would have to happen to thousands of other people too and we'd know about it.

Anything you don't want a foreign government to know (or your own government, law enforcement, or making its way to the news) you should keep off-line.

Color me skeptical.
A) There is a long history of the US government "warning" us about foreign products and it turns out the warnings were just made up out of thin air to punish the foreign country's exporters. Chilean grapes and French tourism come to mind.

B) It's not like the US government can't use your cell phone to spy on you. Who do you think is a greater risk to an American individual, the Chinese or the Americans? I've read that Blackberries are popular because they are made in Canada and not believed to be compromised by any government.

The US government is probably just mad that ZTE won't put their spyware in for them.

ZTE smartphone, Apple products, any smartphone, Alexa,Echo, Dot, Google Home - every one of them CAN be used to spy on you. The Mobley, not so much.

It's OK for the US government to spy on you with smart phone technology, but it's not OK for foreign governments to do the same?:laughing:

It's not can be spied on. We are constantly being shipped on by Amazon, Facebook, advertisers and any number of government agencies, foreign and domestic.

A co-worker was telling me the other day that he was talking about this with an in-law that had high level security clearance in our government. He said there's no sense even trying to hide. They can see everything.

NSA has been listening to ALL telephone calls, land lines since the 60's and cell phones since day one.

When I was in the military, I had to work with the NSA and other government agencies when ever they requested. Most of the time when I was tasked, it is to track down people of interest like killers, bank robbers, counterfeiters and the like, especially if they left the country.

I found out then that somewhere in the government they are listening to and keeping track of everything we say our every where we go all the time.
