EDIT...Oops, I goofed on the title and can't figure out how to edit it...."It should read Model 2542 question..."

Hi,

Perhaps some of you might be willing to help me...

I'm interested in a lawn and garden tractor and have been checking out the Cub Cadet Model 2542.

Some of the lawn I will be cutting is on a side slope of approximately 1:1.5. For lubrication reasons I currently use a push mower that is a 2-cycle ... 4 cycle mowers I have tried ruin in short order.

So...I can't buy a 2-cycle anymore and am now thinking of getting a riding mower instead (getting old ya know :( ). Anyway, the Cub Cadet Model 2542 is something I'm looking into. My question: will that model have the power to mow the side hills (from up and down, not side to side of the slope) and will the pressurized engine lubrication system it has be adequate under my side hill conditions?

Where I live there is no dealer of Cub Cadets and I was interesting in looking at the manuals for the Model 2542 before I purchased one. I found that I can download them from Cub Cadets site but need a serial number to do so. Is it possible for someone to tell me their serial number so I can obtain a manual?

Also, do you have any advice for me pertaining to this model?

Thanks....

Mike

Mike,
You don't need an actual serial number. If you have the actual model number something like 14A-2E7P710 (GT 2550) then in the serial # field type in a fake number like 1234. This will give an error message saying that it did not recognize the serial # but it will allow access to the manual.

Darrell,

I couldn't download any manuals for the 2542, apparently I need a model number like your example. Anyway, I did download a manual for the model you gave me and it was a big help!

Thanks for your time and help - it was appreciated very much!:)

By the way, how do you like your cub cadet - any recommendations?

The Cub 2500's are among the kings of mowing up and down on slopes, power and traction there will be no problem at all, their transaxles excel in that category. Sideways would be a different story, as the 2500's have a higher center of gravity than some tractors in their class some users get an uneasy feeling on them when going sideways on slopes, a Deere 300 or 500 would be more suited for going sideways. I've been very fortunate in that every place I have lived and mowed at I have never had to tackle slopes :)

Fordlords,

From what you wrote, I should have no problems with the lubrication of the engine on slopes - is that correct?

Thanks...

The Kohler Command has a fully pressurized filtered oil system. I have not heard of anyone having any oiling or other issues with these engines on slopes. (Kohler learned their slope lesson the hard way 28 years ago with the KT17 :))
