Came across a fairly beat up 5' JD tiller that is almost too cheap to pass up. From what I can tell, it's a model 40 (s/n says F040G 380xxxM).
I haven't been able to find a manual online or any other information. I did read that some of the older JD tillers had odd PTO input speeds to match specific JD tractors.
So can anyone tell me what the PTO input speed is for the model 40, or what model the s/n decodes to? Assuming it's mechanically functional but cosmetically ugly, is a few hundred dollars a fair price for this vintage?
I'll be pulling it behind our Kubota L3800 with 30 HP at the PTO so I'm safe with the 5 HP/foot of tiller rule.
Thanks
Dave
