I just bought a 1010w with a model 50 backhoe - it seems to run good and doesn't have any leaks - EXCEPT - the one control valve that controls the boom swing arm - and it is a pretty big one. every time the cylinder arm swings it squirts fluid.

In a prefect world I would find a replacement valve I can just replace, but I am pretty new to this and am pretty scared to try to rebuild it, even with the service manual. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Determine where the leak is,is it the spool? is it a hose? or a fitting? When you find the source the valve is rebuildable. Maybe as simple as an O ring on
a fitting.

It is coming out of the spool. I bought a photocopied service manual, but frankly I am a little scared of trying to rebuild, because I can't find a mechanic to fix it if I mess it up.

How does the spool come out once I pull it from the backhoe - is there a screw or something to release it - the book looks like I have to unscrew a cap from the bottom of the valve.

Take a pic or two of the spool and valve.. also the serial number as jdparts.com shows a serial no. break on the spools.

But expect it is just a matter of pulling out the spool and replacing a bad o-ring. Should be pretty straight forward. But a pic will help to guide you if needed. Just be real careful with cleanliness before removing and during... Don't want any dirt to get in there.

And you can see the parts breakdown for the 50 by going to jdparts.com and entering 50 for the model. It is #619 on the long list of model numbers that include "50" backhoe.

The backhoe is not near my house, and I have to work the next 2 weeks streight, but as soon as I can I will take pictures.
I do have a video that shows what I am talking about...

Thanks for your help. I am trying to look up those parts on jdparts.com right now.

There is a change in the spools at s/n 4500. Good video, tks.

Let us know if you don't see the schematics on jdparts.. (it is free registration). But I would be pulling the end cap off the leaky one and sliding out the spool for new 0-rings. Then decide from there if something more serious. Good luck...
