Yep, R1s I really like 'em, and now they are 6 ply front and rear. I really am not impressed with the industrial tires. Funny, the tractors all seem to come with R4s even though the R1s are std.

Having had the R1's, and the R4's, I won't go back to the R1's. I like the fact that the R4's clean up fast after going through mud, and the R1's didn't. A trail of mud for 100 yds wasn't my idea of what I wanted, and the R4's don't seem to do that. Traction with the R4's is not quite what the R1's were, but certainly sufficient for FEL work (don't dig a hole nearly as quick when spinning a bit). Working on the lawn is much better with the R4's and while I don't mow with this tractor, I do traverse the lawn a lot getting rocks, trees, and dirt distributed about. Leave no tracks, contrary to the R1's.

Just more info for whatever decision you guys want to make. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Wind Resitance is a bigger issue than people think... My Wife has very low wind resistance... so pretty much any wind presented must be done outside... or prepare to suffer the resistance /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Trading... I went to look at the new models they had out at a Purina Open house at my local Feed&Grain. I like them, but like you, when I run the numbers about the only thing I start to salivate a bit for is the new loader. I've run into my performance limits with the current loader more often than I'd like. I think the top model of the new ones would do nicely... But I'm still so pleased with the 4310 that I doubt I'd trade it anytime soon.

Looked at the others for 3 minutes huh... what took you so long! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Take Care,

Steve, the numbers are better than I thought. With the current finance options, I can come out pretty well, if I sell outright. (trading doesn't work as well...) I have a couple of angles that might work out on selling, a local auction, or a local dealer will let my put it on his lot. But being without a tractor isn't a pretty thought, even for a few weeks!

Oh I know how hard it is without the tractor. I'm amazed I made it to 40 without having owned one before.

Hey - if the finance numbers look good why not go for it... Actually the numbers I referred to earlier were the performance numbers.. and having spoken again with the dealer, I think the newer loader (top model) would be a "real world" gain for me, but otherwise I can't see getting rid of a tractor with only 180 hours on it.

It seems far away, but in 10 years or so, we'll move to our larger lot. When we get there I think I'll be ready for a larger newer tractor.

Good Luck either way... if you get a new one I'll have to be jealous, and I guess I'll just have to live with it. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

</font><font color="blue" class="small">( Mike,
The ONLY thing I do not like as well is the clunky MFWD lever, which has yet to loosen up after 25 hours use.

Just FYI, I agree that the lever isn't the most solid feeling, BUT I find that a slow steady push or pull while driving straight works best and as soon as the load comes off the gears it comes out or as soon as they align it goes in. Basically shift on a slow roll and it works like a charm for me!

So who takes 4wd off? The only times I do are on hard pavement and with really wet turf. Just this past week I looked at tractor that the owner was dissatisfied with, but refused to use his 4WD to 'save' it and save his front tires. He destroyed the rear tires spinning them with a full bucket. Go figure....

I disengage mine when not needed. Less binding on the drivetrain in tractable conditions so it steers easier etc.
