Moderator List

Is there a viewable list showing which TBN members are also forum moderators ??, or is that list kept in some top secret vault ?? I think that the names of the TBN moderators should be a matter of public record. If my memory is correct... at one time those members were labeled as moderators, or am I wrong ??

The list of moderators that appeared at the bottom of every forum went away years ago when the forum software was changed.

I guess for at least the following : (I'll try to come up with a few more constructive reasons. )

1- Idle curiosity
2- Are there are only a hand full of moderators trying to moderate every post and thread? If so it must be overwhelming at times !
3- When the new forum software was set up why was that editable list eliminated ?
4- And finally.. I still think the list should be a matter of public record... theres no reason to be paranoid

Between Moderators and Administrators there are 8 people. Given the number of daily posts on TBN, Moderators and Administrators can not read every new post in every thread. This might be possible on smaller sites but it's not possible on TBN. Plus the vast, vast majority of TBNers are polite, respectful people who abide by the Terms of Service so there's no need to read every new post in every thread for potential moderation issues.

We count on other TBNers (who do a great job of this) to click on the Notify Moderator button if they run across a post or a thread that needs attention. This notification gets sent to all Moderators and someone investigates and takes action when necessary.

Publishing the names of Modertors fostered people sending PMs to individual people which resulted in issues not being addressed in a timely manner if the particular moderator was not available. It wasn't a issue of paranoia.

Mike is right. When we posted names of the moderators, staff and so forth, it led to people contacting them with inappropriate questions, arguing about whether a post should be moderated, name calling, etc.

We do discuss various issues amongst all moderators. We are always evaluating the services and policies of TBN, and make adjustments and hopefully improvements all the time.

The overall rate of removal of posts is less than 1/10th of 1%.

Generally speaking, we do not reverse decisions of moderators. They very often have discussed an issue within the private moderators' section before any action is taken, particularly if we feel it may lead to raised tempers or controversy.

But hey, sometimes even moderators get moderated -- even me! .

The best thing to do is to flag a post to get moderator attention -- click on the little trianlge with a red exclamation icon on left bottom corner of the page. Usually that gets someone looking at it within an hour or less, even in the middle of the night (the sun never sets on TBN! ).

I truly believe TBN truly is one of the best moderated forums on the Web. The overwhelming majority of our members agree.
