I would like to start a thread that discusses the effectiveness of modifications. I will use mine as an example from most effective to least effective.
0. Tool boxes mounted on the top of the engine cover. One is mounted in front of the fan and one behind the fan. I used plastic ammunition boxes from Northern. This is very useful for storing small tools, gloves, and silicon spray.
1. Move the lights to under the ROPS so that you can see over the attachments at night. I also added a backup light, a flashing orange strobe light, a dome light and a triangle on the back of the engine cover (it is spaced about ½ inch off of the cover to allow air flow in). I have a four bank switch (from PEP boys) to control all lights separately. It is mounted under the ROPS. I rarely use the dome light, but the others are a great improvement.
2. Bumper – A 2 X 6 with a hole in it and a steel reinforcement plate is attached to the rear hitch with the hitch pin. The steel plate has a hole in it for the hitch pin and another hole for a trailer ball. This protects the tractor if you back into something. A friend pushed his back in about an inch.
3. A ROPS Rack – A storage area with 2 X4’s as the sides and ¼ inch plywood as the bottom. I ran screws from below into the 2X 4 to hold it in place. It holds tow straps, a small tool box, a winch, and a come along. I also attached reflective tape on the front, back and sides.
4. Cigarette lighter outlet – Mostly used for a charger that I connect to it when the tractor is not being used. It is sometimes used to charge an old cell phone.
5. Oil Pressure Light – I added a light where the light switch used to be and wired it to the oil pressure switch that is already on the engine. I have never had it alarm once the engine starts, but it could save the engine some day. It might also tell you if the slope is too great and oil flows away from the oil intake.
6. I attached a folding saw to one ROPS support and a machete to the other with tie wraps. I rarely use either one anymore.
That’s about it. What have other's got to say.
