Guys think about it  Not much of a choice. If you point it backwards Like I would with a Quick Hitch your be adding a Tail pipe. Back and no exhaust pipe you "Will be Wiffing it up" Point it down how long will that Last :ashamed:

I my opinion, the choice is between up (where it is now) and forward...

I'm telling you, if you go forward, down and out it works. No fumes in the face. These little Yanmars have a pretty good blow. I first just went down and when I got on sandy ground it made a dust storm. I put a short short elblow, just enough to turn the blow out. No one is going to convince me I have to much pipe on mine. I did have to do a little angle cuttling and welding to get by my loader and then anchored the end good on the front frame to add a little security. I'm bad about running over most anything that gets in the way. :D

After the other comments, I will not be sending the smoke to the 3ph area. I spend enough time there with the engine running, that I don't want to be gassed out. I also know that the pipe would not be hot enough to set grass on fire, but don't want to risk it. Will keep it facing the front, and out with the cheap auto store chrome tail pipe.

I agree with this Mine goes forward with an elbow down and out the side, and it blow sand around when running.

Here is how I ended up setting up my exhaust on my 336D:

I wasn't happy wit the exhaust aimed upwards, nor pointing forward, so I cut the original bracket off using a band saw, then turned it 45 degrees and re-welded it.

I then placed a 90 degree elbow on the end to redirect the exhaust away from the tractor. The exhaust is plenty pressurized to avoid the exhaust from blowing back on me, even when messing with attachments.

You'll notice it rests against the lower bracket for the canopy. This is to ensure it doesn't get broken off if I ever run over a log or something which is tall. The lowest part of the exhaust is still higher than the steering rod.

This shot shows positioning in relation to the rear tire. Even though it doesn't stick out far, the exhaust blows well clear of the rear wheel.

As a benefit, I'm still able to monitor the exhaust color without altering my seating position.

All in all, this is a really fast mod, and one which works quite well. If you are ambitious you can do as I did and buy a better quality muffler, chop the old one off the OEM elbow and weld the new one in its place. Boom! New muffler, OEM elbow, much cheaper cost. The new muffler cost me $30 at Tractor Supply (was for a Ford, if I recall)

I'm curious, how is your new muffler better? Quieter?

For my 336, specifically:
- It has a larger chamber, so it ends up being quieter
- It isn't 30 years old

If you ever saw my original purchase photos you'll notice the new one:
- Doesn't have a giant rust hole in it ;)
