I bought a 54" JD plow last year for my 2520 and found it to be too small for my tractor. So I sent it over to a fabricator I know and had the width increased to 66", the moldboard height increased to 20" and had the A-frame extended out 6". I know that it's best to keep the blade as close to the front of the tractor as possible, but by increasing the length of the A-frame, the max. lift height of the plow is increased and it helps keep the blade's lower/outer tips from hitting the ground when fully angled and in the raised position. It's hard to tell the size difference between a stock 54" and my "new" 66" from the photos, but it makes a difference. The plow covers the rear tires at full angle, which is what I was after. In retrospect, I probably should've gone to 6', but 5.5' will be just fine for my driveway. Next stop is the sandblaster/powdercoater for some new paint.

Looks good!
Why JD does not have a REAL blade for these tractors is still a mystery. The old x55 series tractors had less power, where physically smaller-but had REAL heavy duty blades for them!

I got a JD #380 plow for my machine and modified it to fit.

New coat of JD yellow and some decals and it will look like a new blade. He did a nice job.

Yeah, he does really nice work. One of the best welders I've ever met.

Rtm038,

That is one great looking plow, but the only thing that I would be careful with is that you don't have any trip springs that will protect your tractor. And one more thing that I have learned over the years is that it is a good idea to bolt up your main frame to your plow. On the pic below I used 4 3/4" bolts with locknut washers.;)

I had to take the trip springs off before it went to the fabricator and have yet to put them back on because they were next to impossible to take off. After powdercoating, I'll reinstall them using eye bolts so their tension can be adjusted. Good eyes though..:)
