Wonder if the blades on my new KK tiller could be safely modified to make it work more like a harley rake or pulvarizer. My thought is to drill and tap each blade to accept one 2" long or so point that would break or bend away before the blade bent on a larger rock or whatever. The points could be easily unscrewed to return the tiller to original. Points could be made from 1/4 or 3/8" bolts. Gauge wheels could be easily added as well. Don't have the unit yet so not sure how much clearance exists between blades and housing.

I usually manage to void waranties anyway.

Thanks for your thoughts.

I'm not sure what you are trying to do here, Dale. If you don't have tiller yet, I would wait til you have and try it. My tiller makes a great seed bed, no mods. Yours may do the same. Of course it depends on the soil type, but yo may be thinking of an unnecessary mod.

Keep us informed.

The harley rock rake works at an angle to the tractor, you might have trouble getting the tiller to do that to make a windrow. Hitch modifications would be in order and probably extra gauge wheels to carry the machine at the proper height.

Areas of my yard are compacted beyond the point at which grass will have a decent chance. Besides the tiller, I ordered a box blade that might help the situation.

Thanks for your thoughts folks. When the ground is somewhat moist will get the tiller (unaltered) working.

an aerator is designed to reduce compaction in lawns promoting good root grouth etc. (among other things)

Unless to have time,a welder and a good scrap pile...you might be time and money ahead just to rent a powered aerater for a day or two.Cheap pull behind star knife models can be purchased for about the cost of a rental.
