John Deere 420 garden tractor
Since changing tractors to a Cub Cadet 982 super garden tractor, 20hp Onan powered, Cat 0 3pt. I am looking to purchase a moldboard plow. The Brinly ones are almost impossible to find localy, when they could be got new they were over $500 at localy dealer. He now says they are out of production. I like the Howse and Leinbach plows, but dont want more than I can bite off and chew when I plow. The Brinly was a 12" bottom so I am guessing most of the plows with that size I can handle, as long as the bottom pin spacing doesnt exceeded what Cat 0 hitch can handle. It looks like both the Howse and the Lienbach can have thier lower pins changed, so I can put Cat 0 pins there. But not being able to look at the plow in person, I am leary of dropping the cash if it wont work on the tractor. The 982 is physicaly as big as the Kubota B6000 I had and more powerfull than the boat. I dont see an issue lifting the heavier plows as the rear PTO tiller is up over 400lbs for my tractor. Looking for suggestions, anybody close that has one of these plows I can look at? Thanks Mike and Michele T

Send me the 982 and I'll come plow your garden! I had a 682 for 15 years and loved that thing. They just don't build 'em like that any more.

Thats kewl, I used to have a 682 as well. We also own a 582 red Cub Cadet, but its stored in Indiana. I have a plow for that one as its a sleeve mount. My wife and I attend several plow day events during the spring and fall. So I am on a bit of a deadline to get a plow for the 982. First event is the end of April. I like the looks of the leinbach and Howse plows, but am concered about being able to lift it high enough for transport and the lower arms lining up correctly. I run 26-12-12 tires on the back of the 982, not quite as tall as some of smal SCUT tractors. I think the design of those plows is more robust than the Brinly as well. Handling the weight isnt an issue, the cat 0 rear pto driven tiller for the 982 is over 400lbs. Mike
