Jeff,
Fine looking setup. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Did the temp raise to high in your metal shop from the Texas heat wave this year, and do you have half horse power exhaust fan?

Nice Job You will find it very handy. I installed one in my shop a few years back. Couldn't do without it now.

The shop is new so I have not used it thru the summer months yet. I have not installed a fan yet but it will be a 4000 cfm minimium one for the heat and welding fumes. I put in big closeable roof vents that is working fine so far but have only had 95 degree temps yet, and that is cool around here /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Thomas, you asked about the sun heating Jeff's metal shop.... My metal shop was like an oven in the summer , even with an exhaust fan in the top. Last winter I covered it with an additional galvalume roof with a 3 1/2" airway between the new and old roof and vented the new roof at the peak. It didn't air condition it, but it takes the radiant heat away. this summer we had about 25 days of temps over 100 degrees, and interior temps was never above the ambient temp, usually a few degrees below.

geneP,
With those kind of shop temps /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif I guess you close the doors early and call it a day??

I remember Bird writtening he got up early for his shop work just to beat the heat.

What kind of heating system do you have, and does condesation bother much?

May you and your family have a safe and pleasant holiday.

You're right, Thomas. In the summer, I try to start well before daylight because all the cooling I have is 3 or 4 fans, an overhead door and walk door open, and a ridge vent the length of the shop building. But this time of year, I wait until well after sun-up because all the heat I have is a little propane "Mr. Heater."/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Yes,Thomas, I work early or late in the summer. I've never used any heat in the winter. Like Bird, I can wait until later in the day and it is usually quite comfortable. Since it's a hobby thing, I just don't go out there if it's too unpleasant.

Condensation used to be a big problem in the winter. The sun would hit the cool metal roof, and condensation would form and drop off like rain. The additional roof layer stopped that, too.
