Montana 3940HST
I have looked at a number of tractors and have decided not to purchase one of the Chinese made tractors even though their pricing is very attractive. I have been comparing the Kubota and the Montana. The Montana 3940 HST has more h.p. than the Kubota 3430. I have been quoted 18,658 for the 3940 and 19 plus for the Kubota, each with a front end loader. Both tractors feel great and perform well. Sure would appreciate some input from others who may have already made their choice. I am a bit concerned about future parts and service for the Montana. Kubota definitely has the advantage on dealers.

The 3940hst is a great tractor. We rent them out and have every kind of user. The tractor performs extremely well under some heavy use. The Mitsubishi engine is excellent and parts are easy to get. The hydro on it is an Eaton and again should not be a parts problem.

The Montana dealer network is growing rapidly and if you have a dealer near you that you trust there is every reason to go with the 3940hst.

I believe it has every bit the quality as the competitors. In this specific case comparing with the Kubota I think both are excellent tractors but the Montana has more hp, more standard features and is more affordable and if you are financing you could get it at 0% for 30mo.

Since you like both tractors and they will both do the specific jobs you need to do then I suppose it boils down to how comfortable you are with the dealers. I think parts wise they will be available for the long term for the LG/LS manufactured tractors.

Give the 3940hst a lot of consideration as I believe you will be very please with it in the long run.

Good Luck,

I had a customer just the other day asking the same question that you are. Like Maka pointed out, there are more standard features on the 3940 that would need to be optioned on the Kubota such as two sets of hyd remotes, draft control, rear work light. The Montana also has larger tires at least the R-4s. The 3940 is also listed as 350+ lbs heavier than the Kubota and I'm sure that's not just the difference in the weight of the options that come on the 3940HST.

The Montana is also 39HP with 33 at the PTO.

If you think the Montana dealer that gave you the quote is a good dealer, I'd give it some serious thought!

Maka,
I took delivery on my new 3940HST last Saturday. Spent a little time learning tractor but so far I really like it. I probably bought more than I need for my property and its requirements but I always seem to do that. I do have a question for you on the use of the bush hog and pto speeds. Should you always try to get up to the 540 pto speed when using the device? I noticed that the tractor has no stall recovery as it shuts down as soon as the bush hog would slow under big load. This did not occur when running at the 540 pto speed but it just seems the tractor is running harder than necessary at the 540 speed.
Also, I washed it before showing to my wife!!!!!!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Hope you don't mind me jumping in here. Just run it up at 540. On a hydro, it's very important to keep the engine up to at least 2,000 rpm. To idle it around is no good for the hydro unit.

Glad to hear you like the tractor. I think it's a really nice tractor and it should have all the features that you would want.
