Montana 4340
I have a Montana 4340 that doesn't want to move unless you are in a very low gear or creeper mode. In high gear, you can get it to move if you throttle up real high. Even though it still moves really slow and even if you hit a small bump it comes to a stop. If I understand correctly, this would be the clutch slipping? It has done the same thing several times in the past and all I had to do was adjust the clutch pedal and it would work fine. Now adjusting the clutch doesn't do anything, just makes it worse.

Has the clutch probably gone out and needs to go get serviced? Or is there any other simpler solutions that could possibly be causing it? I'm willing to do quite a bit of maintenance on my own but I don't really feel comfortable splitting the tractor in half to access the clutch.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
Jonathan

No, I'm not sure any advice would be appreciated. If you've adjusted to the point there is no adjustment remaining it is indeed probably time for a clutch replacement. Just be VERY sure your adjustment is correct before splitting the tractor. As far as I know my forty year old Mitsubishi with 2400 hours still had the original clutch.

Are there any inspection covers on the clutch that you can remove? You might be able to see what the clutch face looks like.
I have had a tractor where the rear main seal on the engine started to leak which caused the clutch to slip. Should be able to this also

I agree first step is to open the inspection plate. I seen glazed clutches from throw out bearings being over-greased as well and then coating the friction plate.

There is a plate on the floor in front of the seat. Tried to open it but the forward/reverse gear shifter goes through the middle of it. The shifter is attached with two spring pins that are stuck and I'm still working on getting them out. I'll update y'all if I get it open.

The plate didn't grant access to the clutch. I decided to go ahead and attempt splitting the tractor after watching some videos on it. I successfully split it and pulled the clutch out. It was almost completely nonexistent and paper thin. I've got a replacement on order.

Just read your post. Just curious how many hours on your tractor? How long did it take you to split the tractor and replace the clutch? and, How much will it cost to replace the clutch. I see prices seem to vary so much for the two stage clutchs. From a few hundred dollars on ebay to over 2500$ at parts places . Dealer said it could cost up to 5000$ to replace with over 20 hours of work.
