Hey there, I am a new member and am in the market for a new or used tractor at some point in the next year. I was a herdsman on a dairy farm for eight years so I have some experience with operating equipment but I would say my mechanical intelect on the topic is not great. I have ten acres of pasture field and garden land. I also live in Maine so snow removal is going to be huge. I have looked into the bigger companies JD, Kubota, NH, MF and my eyes have only crossed a few times. I decided I would look into some of the smaller companies like Mahindra and Montana. Montana seems to be considerably less money than other comparible tractor brands.

My question is will Montana be a decent investment. Why are they cheaper. I am looking the 4344 or 4944 with FEL. I will eventually look into buying a used tiller, wood splitter, and bush hog.

What am I looking at for price for the above two models with just the FEL.

i have a 4344 with FEL and have about 370 hours on it now.

we have a 10 acre ranch divided into four paddocks/pastures, a yard around the house and a riding ring.

we have a 6 foot box blade, 6 foot Howse bush hog, and a Howse auger.

we also added a Montana quick hitch to change between attachments easily.

love this tractor and had virtually no problems with it.

i too looked at all the other brands and could not justify paying the premium for one. i am fairly mechanically inclined though this is my first tractor.

i think we paid 23,000 for everything... but that has been a while and my memory fades.

hindsight being 20/20 i'd probably would have opted for the 4944 but in all seriousness have not needed the extra HP... the 4344 has done what we wanted and more. the 4944 would probably grade our road with less effort is all...

I have had my R4449 HST for a year now and have approx. 125 hours on it. I has always started in the cold weather and has done every thing I have asked of it. I have a 12 acre horse farm so it is used for moving muck piles, grading the road, mowing grass, snow blowing and plowing, post holes, carrying round hay bales and anything else I can find to do. I love this machine and would recommend it to any one.

Looks like only one Montana dealer in the state, in Farmington Falls. I'd buy whatever brand has a good local dealer to you.
