Anyone have input on the quality of a Montana Landscape Rake?
I usually buy Landpride or Woods, but have a hard time plunking down $800+ for a Landscape Rake.
There is a Montana dealer near my farm and he has a 7' rake for $629 + tax. Sounds like a good deal as long as it's a well made product. I'm not sure who makes the rake for Montana, but another guy said he thinks it's Howse or Taylor Pittsburgh....I don't know anything about these manufacturers.
Any suggestions?
Thanks everyone :D

If it was me, I would spend the extra $200 and get either the Woods or Land Pride rake. When it comes to implements, you usually get what you pay for. This is not to say that the Montana rake isn't any good, but if you are not sure about the quality by looking at it, maybe you should play it safe and get one of the bigger name brand implements.

Just my opinion, I'm sure that others will vary.

Brian, I tend to agree with you on "you get what you pay for". That's why I buy name brand implements. My only reason for going towards the Montana rake is that there really aren't any moving parts powered by a pto or hydraulics. Just tines and a pivot point to angle the rake. I need a rake badly and have to watch my $ due to being laid off from my job (like thousands of other people  ).
Any other info out there on the Montana rake?

Sorry I don't know about montana rakes. I'm curious if the $629 includes gage wheels? If not you might want to take a look leinbach rakes (ebay). If you search this forum you will see many happy users.

I understand the tight money problem, just don't want you to get one and ruin it like I did, and then have to pretty much completely rebuild it.

Good luck

In today's economy, why not look in the for sale for a rake and even consider running ad for such?

Check and see if your state dept of agriculture has a special sales site or farmers only. Many states do and those are normally got places to find stuff.

Check for auctions on farm equipment but if you go to buy that way, be sure of what you are doing. Some people will pay more for used at auction than new cost.

Search this forum, key word "fred cain" . GI Joe posted some pictures of a really good looking rake. If you like what you see do a yahoo search "fred cain". They are in Tennessee and you will find a phone number there. I have misplaced his name but there is a gentleman there that can tell you if anyone in your area carries his rakes.

All of the Montana landscape rakes I have seen were either made by King Kutter or Midwest Equipment (but I'm not sure if they're in business any more, but they made/make nice stuff) So... I wouldn't be afraid of the Montana rake. Like you said... it has no moving parts. If you use it like a landscape rake is meant to be used, and not a bulldozer... it should be just fine. There is nothing wrong with the Land Pride and others... but like you said... they're a lot more expensive. Why pay more for a good one that cost's much less.

Thanks for the input.
I decided to go with the Lienbach 7' rake. It was a little over $80 less, with shipping, then the Montana.
