Hi,
I realize there is no absolutely right answer but I am buying my first tractor. Using it for thining about 40 acres of woods trees are 10-20 yes old, mostly 6 inch in diameter or smaller hardwoods like maple. There are the occasional bull pines which I plan to clear, chip limbs, and cut lumber from the trunks. I will probably grind or cut low the bigger stumps and try to pull the smaller stumps. I also have about 5 acres of red pine that is 2- years old, small diameter (about 8 inches) but tall that were planted by a former owner but never thinned and now in pretty bad shape. that I would like to clear. I also have a driveway which is al,ost a mile long and needs to be graded every other year except with big rain in which case every year. I. Considering the following tractors:
Ford 1715 4x4 27HP Diesel Tractor & Ford 7108 Front Loader
27hp 3 cylinder diesel engine with 1,257 hours. 4x4, differential lock, ROPS, canopy, lights, rear PTO, rear 3 point hitch arms, ag tires. Has easy to use manual transmission with power steering, front loader with welded on bucket hooks. Tractor is rugged and ready to work! Back blade included ad delivery. Price 10k. Looked at it today, starts right up, everything seems to function well, but I知 totally new to tractors so I wouldn稚 really know. Price 11k (think I can get down to 10k)
John Deere 4500: loader and backhoe. Also includes trailer for hauling. I haven稚 seen it because it痴 about 6 hrs from me but was told it痴 in good shape without any issues. 1480 hrs. At tires loaded with beet juice. Price 15k (accepted as an offer down from 18k)
Cub cadet 8454: as a kioti DK45 only w different paint. 45hp, 4wd, skid steer quick attach bucket and rear hydraulic remotes to run a backhoe or other implements. 1000hrs. Has left hand reverser. Also comes w ice pick tire chains. $11,900
I致e read the Ford is indestructible and really easy to work on. It seems to be the perfect size, footprint wise for working in the woods but has the least power and is maybe a little overpriced.
The JD a little more than I want to spend but a great deal if it痴 not a total mess. I could always sell the trailer;er. And it has a backhoe! And mid mount pto, although I知 not sure I壇 get much use from that.
The cub cadet is the most powerful of the three, near me, and close to my desired price point but possibly with hard to find parts and no additional attachments other than the loader
