More Eagles

I took this one yesterday, I got about half of the birds that were there in this pix.

Was privileged a week ago to see 2 bald eagles at a river near our house; (I was on the tractor!) Growing up, Bald eagles were never seen around here, then about 8 years ago one flew over our house, now a pair living in the area. It feel so good to see in the wild what I used to only see in the zoo.

A recovery after the banning of DDT??

On a drive to the beach yesterday we saw several circling Bald Eagles.

Fantastic! Kind of a comical picture, the way they're standing on the ice. There is a report of one in our area, I may have to head out with the camera this weekend.

That's what I was thinking. I am not sure about Canada, but in Virginia there are hawks everywhere.

Not a defender of nor was user of DDT but are you sure it is that simple? Food supply has to be part of it. Is it possible we are also seeing them more as there is less woods and more houses in more places to notice such? I have no doubt there are much more geese in my part of the world for a few years ago there was none and now they are getting to be a pest. But on the geese, beavers are the big reason here for the increase of geese, they flooded acres upon acres of woods where they thrive as does now wild hogs and coyotes (Not native). At same time the small animal farmer is going away due to laws and cost providing habitat to some of these.

DDT was building up in their food supply and thinning their egg shells, causing them to break. Peregrine falcons met a similar fate. Now there are many breeding pairs.

I should, they sure have taken plenty of shots at me! The other morning, our parking lot was literally covered with their "litter". So far, my car has escaped the bombardment.

You can have 'em Egon. MossRoad wasn't kidding about the number of them. The other morning I was walking in to work and I could hear them in the trees of a park behind our building. Large, mature trees. It was just beginning to lighten up for the morning and there were so many crows in the trees it looked like they were in full summer foliage. And the noise is almost deafening. I think they've moved on finally, haven't noticed them for the past couple of days. Spring may finally be on the way, the cardinal has been singing outside my window. Much better than crow calls!

Every morning they fly out around 7 to points unknown. Then about an hour before sunset they start coming back. They move a few blocks each night. The other night I thought they were going to stay in my back yard. I went out and whistled real loud, they all took off, I started laughing, then they all turned around and came back right at me! Man were they loud!!! I ran inside.
