Tractor
LS XR3037C
So about 10p-12 times since the middle of last winter my tractor has gone into limp mode. I have put on over 100 hours since this started. It has progressively gotten worse and does it about 1/2 hour after EVERY regen cycle now. Goes into 1800RPM limp for nearly an hour AFTER 30 minutes AFTER it has completed a regular regen!! Today i moved 30-40 ton of pit run for a job about 20 miles up into the mountains. I had just wrapped up and pulled up to my truck and let it idle to let the turbo cool down while i called the wife. After about 4-5 minutes of idling, IT QUIT! Started it back up and the Red Exclamation light bottom left was flashing but this timer the ONE DFF light was also flashing where in the past it was both DPF lights and the exclamation. Went to put it on the trailer which was about 200' away and 30 seconds or so in it quits again! Dealer is aware but he is about 460 miles away round trip and i have needed the tractor all summer. Now it is unusable so i guess i make the long journey! I have worked on Powerstroke diesels since they started building them in 1994. Owned a performance shop for a while and modded the **** out of them, bigger injectors, turbos, EGR deletes (for off road use lol) Programming ECT. I WILL get to the bottom of this emissions BS and make it go away eventually!! Just no time to dig into it right now and i'm still under warranty!

Ran balls to the wall all day today moving 40 tons of dirt. If it was a fuel issue it would have GRADUALLY gotten weak you would think. PLUS this has been going on for about 100 hours on and off. Run the same ULSD in all my diesel equipment from the same distributor for the last 10 years without issue on the rest........

As far as the tractor, look under my username...

How frustrating for you this must be. I can feel that.
You mentioned that you were getting fault codes, One was DFF, one was DPF, ande you said that the tractor quit in the middle of a regen; that it had been in limp mode in the past.
Probably I cannot be of much help, not being an LS owner, nor a mechanic, nor being around that particular tractor.
All that I know is what you have told me, but if you cannot get wiser counsel from a dealer you just have to make some deductions based on what you do know, and what you do not know.
I am trying to do just that:
These codes have meanings. .and they have causes. DFF means there is an issue with the fuel filter. Limp mode means that the EMU computer has detected a condition which is serious enough to cause engine damage soon.
DPF means that the particulate filter is getting over-saturated and needs to be regenerated with rich fuel to continue.
You know that the tractor stgpped running in mid regen cycle. You know that the tractor had been working quite hard. You do not know why. You think you know that your fuel is good, AT SOURCE. You also know how and when it was refueled. You know when the Diesel fuel filter was cleaned or replaced. You know that it has been in Use for an extended period of time. My deduction from the above seems to suggest that this is an issue. I would consider changing it before you look much further. If this does not help and your dealer is unresponsive, call the manufactutre for help. Tier 4 apparatus is too complex to monkey with IMO.
Good Luck.. sorry for your trouble

It has never quit in a regen OR in limp regen. It only started quitting in it's current condition with the red (!) and ONE regen light flashing. See video i posted above.....

Called the dealer at 8AM this morning. He is supposed to have the area rep/training tech out of Oregon call me. We'll see where this goes.......

Area rep/trainer called me yesterday. Went through a sequence and got it to run and start a regen. Quit after 20 minutes. Went through said sequence again and it started and ran through a complete regen. Took 55 minutes. Looking like the pulley that drives the air pump is too small and the tractor is not getting enough air on regen at my 3,500' altitude. Sounds like they will send me a larger pulley for the crankshaft and a longer belt. I'll let y'all know......

Good. Glad you are getting somewhere. That is the first I have heard of that kind of a problem cause. Live and learn.

I wish you well with the fix and in future tractoring. Please do let us know how it all comes out
