Kubota B7500HSD-R
OK, I think I have read every flail mower post on TBN. So now, I want a Caroni TL1500ASC for cutting my pasture and meadow. I am even ready to spend the money. But, I am not sure my tractor can handle the TL1500. My tractor is at the low end of the recommended tractor (engine) HP which is 20-40HP. I have a Kubota B7500 HSD (21HP engine /16HP PTO) that weighs 1,367# w/o FEL & MMM. With the MMM, total weight is 1,715# before operator. I would probably use the flail with the MMM installed and pinned up in the transport position.

Q1: Does anyone use a B7500 & TL1500 combination successfully?

A Caroni distributor told me that they "have a note" that the TL1500 can not be used with a Kubota DT3000 tractor because the lift arms are too short and the flail hits the rear tires when lifted. The distributor does not seem to have any further information, and I haven't even found a reference to a DT3000 to compare lift arm dimensions to the B7500.

Q2: Has anyone had a TL series flail touching the rear tires (of any tractor) when lifted?

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

No specific knowledge here regarding the clearance issue but in general I'd think the B7500 would handle the roughly five foot flail just fine. Of course when you let the grass get very tall or if it is very lush you will need to slow down but that happens even with my 40hp machine with the Caroni TM1900.

The flail model you are looking at is optimized for grass, not brush. I'm sure it will do fine in a pasture but the type and number of flails would be inefficient in brush.

flails are usually 5 pto hp per foot of mower, i have an L4400 37 hp at the pto, i have a 7 foot alamo flail cuts 5 foot grass and weeds no problem, even cuts brush, i just start high on the first pass then lower after each pass

Thanks, IslandTractor - I was pretty sure from your previous posts, that you would say, "Go for it!"

Sure would be nice to hear that the clearance issue is a non-issue, though.

spo307 - Thanks, I pretty much know that I am at the low end for HP.

If you have a quick attach on the TPH that will put the flail back another 3-4 in.

If you have clearance problems, then you could do what the smaller tractors do with the factory 3 pt tillers. Use a very short top link and a solid adapter coming back from the tractor top link connections. (a trangular piece pinned in 2 places on the tractor top link connection). This causes the implement to rotate away from the tires as it is lifted instead of into the tires. Yanmar does this for sure and probably others too.

Hooked on HP - I do have the Pat's Easy Change system. So far, I haven't been able to confirm that there really might be an interference.

MJPetersen - Thanks for the tip! I will keep that in mind, should I go ahead with the flail and encounter an interference problem.

Anybody out there - Further searching has yielded a Kubota Model L3000DT. Perhaps that is the model DT3000 noted? Does anyone have a L3000DT with or without a rear wheel interference problem?
