This was an ulterior motive for buying my tractor.
I've always been big on metal detecting, bottle digging, relic hunting etc.
On many occasions we were wishing like h*ll we had some machinery to help out.
Since I bought the Kubota last April I've been waiting for a site to come up where we had the potential to find some good stuff by using a tractor. The next issue is getting permission to use machinery. Hand trowels are usually no problem...but a backhoe or loader... that's a different story.
Our first site came available this weekend. A construction company has been tearing down houses built in the 1800's to make way for modern urbanization.
We've been hunting the lots with metal detectors as the houses came down but the debris to work around is horrible. However, a lot of great coins and some extremely rare tokens were found along with a multitude of other interesting artifacts.
We got the bright idea that if we brought my tractor over with a box blade and scraped off the surface debris... what big treasures might await.
The owner of the construction company, which is also the developer, was approached and in so many words he said "you guys can do whatever you want because we're leveling this whole block anyways"
It didn't take long to get the tractor loaded. As you can see from the photos, news spreads fast and treasure hunters came out of the woodwork. We didnt find anything to speak of because we had already hunted these lots hard... but we had a great time!
We've got a bottle dump from the 1800's in the works. Waiting on permission to use a backhoe. It'll be gold mine. If it happens, I'll post pics.
