I have an old NEW hOLLAND MODEL 390 tubgrinder that I had the hydraulic motor rebuilt. I used to run this tubgrinder with an old IH 806 diesel. Now it won't begin to turn the tub. My son had it over to his place in a neighboring state, and ran it with a much newer Case IH model, and the tub never offered to stop once. My little operation don't justify a high dollar tractor just to run a tubgrinder for 40-50 cows. Any suggestions on increasing pump pressures, etc. ??

Welcome to TBN
I suggest to utilize a gauge & check your tractors hyd pressure. Has hyd filter been changed lately?

It's not difficult or expensive to put a higher rated relief valve cartridge in your 806. I'm pretty certain a relief from a 66 series tractor will be rated higher but still safe to install in your 806.
Check your system pressure before and after.

You can try and get by by trying to boost the pressure, but I really expect that you will end up
replacing the pump. Unless you get real lucky and just a filter change clears up your issues.

RickB did the 806 use two pumps or just one?

Lou, the 806 had the typical configuration of IH tractors with hydraulic TA’s. An MCV pump for steering, brakes and TA along with a hitch pump for the 3PT and remotes. The PTO unit has its own dedicated pump. I should go back and see if the RV for a 1066 is more than 2000 psi, I bet it is. I’ve seen these older IH tractors that wouldn’t open a round baler gate or fold a 4 star Tedder without jacking up the relief. Not saying this couldn’t lead to a pump as well.
1066 relief is pre set for 2500 psi. That’s the one the OP’s 806 needs.
