Winter days can get to be boring and one's mind can due some wandering. Was working on my recently acquired Satoh Bison and noticed something which struck me a little odd.
I noticed that down near the bottum (base) of the block just above where the pan bolts on, in the lower reccesses the red paint was absent and a white chalky substance was present. This material looked similar to plaster of paris. This same material was also present coming from under plastic insert caps which look like they're covering up what appears to be factory machined and possibly threaded holes or passages on various locations on the engine block. OK, take a breath after that last one.
My questions:
Does anybody know if possibly this may have been done in the Mazda factory to clean up the appearencce of the engine block? Maybe just a cosmetic procedure? Has anyone else noticed the same condition?
Eventualy I would like to primp this baby up, new paint, decals and make it shine, but I don't want to start digging this stuff out of there if indeed it is supposed to be there.
Also will throw this into the mix just to cloud things up a little more. This tractor originaly was sold in Texas. I purchased it in Oklahoma. I hauled it home to Wisconsin. I , being a northern boy and not knowing any better am also pondering another possibility. Is it possible that this could be a build up of alkaly?
Okay now that you've had enough time to pull yourself up off of the floor from laughing so hard...
Would like to hear your comments on this "white powdery substance"?
Thanks in advance for your time and interest.
