3550 Fard Backhoe and a 1948 Farmall Cub,
I have some friends that rabbit hunt with beagles. The other day they they were at a 100 acre rabbit pen for the weekly hunt. While walking theres an old barn that a favorite buzzard roost. They found 2 dead buzzards there. Since it was a satrurday and most game wardens are off on the other end of the county they would call a bit later. They didnt think much about it as its an old roost. They ran that day and found 2 deer carcasses that had been eaten on. His is normal as the pen has a couple foxes and coyotes and normal wildlife. Later that night when m frinds got home his 2 beagles were acting ill.

They got worse so he went to the vet and later his son arrived with a sick beagle. My friends 2 dogs survived but his sons lead dog had to be put down. They sent off samples and fround that 2 beagles had been poisoned with rat bait and his son's dog had antifreeze poisoning. They spoke with the vet about the buzzards and the deer carcasses and got the game warden. They went to the club and went in and found one dead coyote and a new dead buzzard. They got the tractor and collected them. O ne of the deer carcasses was about 20 yards from the fence and the went over to it and found some evideince the fence had been climbed over and a 4 wheeler trail was near it.

Thats where they found a few empty rat bait pellet boxes and an anti freeze jug. They walked it down to the end of the trail and found a traile that went back to the public land and on that runs to the neighboring residential area. After asking around the game wardens picked up a father and son that were new to hunting. They said the dogs running in the pen were ruining thei deer hunting. THey were more than proud to bragg about poisoning the deer carcasse and some raw chicken. They were arrested on a ton of charges Maiming a hunting dog, 3 pending counts of poisoning the buzzards and trespassing and a few other charges.

Its folks like this that really irk me. Its not like they dont have 5800 acres of public land to hunt on. But rather hunt next to a privatley owned and fenced club. to keep teir beagles from disturbing deer hunters.

Sorry to hear about your friends & their dogs. I would expect the arrested parties to face a pretty stiff penalty. Poisoning the buzzards, even without the intent to do so, is pretty serious - probably more so than poisoning someone's dog. Plus, seems nowdays poisoning a dog is a crime looked down on more than if the same was done to a person.

That is terrible. Around here the hunters could become the hunted doing that sort of thing.

Will these two fools get a hearing? It would be interesting to hear what is said about the stupidity involved in this act of deliberate poisonings.I hope the judge revokes their hunting for a good long spell, plus they just might get some sitting time in the cross-bar hotel?Jy

I had a friend that had a dog get into some rat poison this past week. He called the vet and he said give him 2 tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide. He did and the dog regurgitated the poison and all is well. Ken Sweet

I hate to hear that. I hope your friends dogs are ok. People like that need to be taken to the woods and swing from the short end of a rope.

Indiscriminate poisoning has to be among the lowest of the low. Given that those folks probably barely have enough brain synapses for life support, they probably don't understand that the dogs will actually move the deer for them and are highly likely to help their hunting rather than hurt it.
These guys are nothing but oxygen thieves
Sorry for the loss

Make sure your local newspaper gets notified of this. They can post mug shots of the guys (public records) and then everyone in the area will know.

Hey Taylor,

Was this in Tish county anywhere around the waterway (Tenn-Tom)?
I have four really good friends that run their dogs over your way. I have gone with them a few times but I don't have any dogs in race. Nothing like the sound of a good pack of beagles.

You probably have heard of or know my uncle, he used to be the game warden in this zone. He is the sheriff of Alcorn county now. His name is Charles Rinehart but I just call him Uncle Barney.

Hope all has been cleared up and taken care of. Thanks for the heads-up. Hadn't heard anything about it.

Thanks
David

I am impressed the Game Wardens were able to find the thugs. And to think on other threads people have been beating up WO/GW for being overpaid and useless.

A dog trainer I know just had her barn B&E'd AND had a new Dobbie puppy stolen out of his pen. She just had to put down her dog a month or so ago and the puppy was the replacement. :( She mentioned the theft on the local website/chatlist and a bunch of people spoke up about dog thefts in the county.

I hope the thugs get caught. Theft of a dog in NC is a felony. I sent her the statute to make sure the deputy's investigating the dog theft know that portion of NC law. :D

In this case it sound like the GW's hit the two with every charge they could.

Later,
Dan
