- 3550 Fard Backhoe and a 1948 Farmall Cub,
I have some friends that rabbit hunt with beagles. The other day they they were at a 100 acre rabbit pen for the weekly hunt. While walking theres an old barn that a favorite buzzard roost. They found 2 dead buzzards there. Since it was a satrurday and most game wardens are off on the other end of the county they would call a bit later. They didnt think much about it as its an old roost. They ran that day and found 2 deer carcasses that had been eaten on. His is normal as the pen has a couple foxes and coyotes and normal wildlife. Later that night when m frinds got home his 2 beagles were acting ill.
They got worse so he went to the vet and later his son arrived with a sick beagle. My friends 2 dogs survived but his sons lead dog had to be put down. They sent off samples and fround that 2 beagles had been poisoned with rat bait and his son's dog had antifreeze poisoning. They spoke with the vet about the buzzards and the deer carcasses and got the game warden. They went to the club and went in and found one dead coyote and a new dead buzzard. They got the tractor and collected them. O ne of the deer carcasses was about 20 yards from the fence and the went over to it and found some evideince the fence had been climbed over and a 4 wheeler trail was near it.
Thats where they found a few empty rat bait pellet boxes and an anti freeze jug. They walked it down to the end of the trail and found a traile that went back to the public land and on that runs to the neighboring residential area. After asking around the game wardens picked up a father and son that were new to hunting. They said the dogs running in the pen were ruining thei deer hunting. THey were more than proud to bragg about poisoning the deer carcasse and some raw chicken. They were arrested on a ton of charges Maiming a hunting dog, 3 pending counts of poisoning the buzzards and trespassing and a few other charges.
Its folks like this that really irk me. Its not like they dont have 5800 acres of public land to hunt on. But rather hunt next to a privatley owned and fenced club. to keep teir beagles from disturbing deer hunters.
