I know a few folks have had pole barns installed by Morton, question is on their spliced 2x6 posts (bottom pt section). Were they glued and nailed/screwed together or just nailed/screwed and also did they use stainless steel fasteners or galvanized? I know a while back there were some great photos of one going up and the spliced method they use has me interested in going that route with mine.

I was curious a few years ago about the same thing. Some of the engineers on the site had issue with the idea that the splice would make a hinge point and was not the best way to do it for site built posts. As I recall, the feed back was that Morton and several other manufactures are laminating the posts in a production facility that used presses and glue that would not be practical for a site built unit. I think it is safe to say that Morton has the engineering staff to be sure their posts meet all the standards.

Our Morton built in 1994 is a straight nail job with a air nailer. They did run a bolt through the top where the truss rests between the upper part of the posts. Bottom line is the warranty.

When we looked around at buildings that have been up for 20 or more years the Morton always still looked brand new. Ours looks as good as it did going up. The only thing that does not look as good is the small entry door, it faded on us.

Interesting that they were using that method that far back.

The photos in another Morton thread shows the pt portion put in prior to the rest of the post being attached. I like the way of being able to easily handle them this way.

Morton, the best!

When it comes to glue, it's like a weld. It'll break but not at the glue joint!

When folks build houses the beams are glued together. They hang sheet rock with glue too.

The know what they are doing with glue these days.
