Most acreage mowed with 5\' mower

What is the most acreage that you have mowed with a 5' mower and how long did it take?

Finish mow or just cut?
Open fields or around landscaping? Around fencing? Along buildings?
Flat or hilly?
Smoothed ground or pastures?

There are so many ways to answer this that you would be better served to narrow down your question significantly.

Just rough cut open flat pasture.

I have 2 acres of fenced in pasture. It takes me 2 hours to cut, if I do it every 6 weeks. I use a 5' rotary cutter. If I was to clean it up so my 60" finish mower could do the cut. It would take 1 hour to cut every week.

I have a 6' rotary mower and I can mow about 2 acres per hour with it. Pretty rough stuff though. I mowed all 42 acres last year and it took me about 24 hours. Some of it hadn't been mowed in more than 10 years and was thick brush. I mowed some of it again later in the summer and did it in about 2 1/2 acres per hour. This is also wide open ground with 1,000' plus straight shots on each side.

If you just go by math the 5' mower would take 20% longer.

I mow about 40 acres of pasture land every year with a 6ft bush hog, some ground is a little rough some not so rough but I don't go real fast doing it anyways,the hay in some places is waist high.Like mentioned above I do about 2 acres per hr.. I don't mind the time spent as I like the seat time anyway.What I don't mow the wife does as she likes to be on the tractor also.I used a 5ft. bush hog for several years before getting the 6 footer, and that was ok just a little slower.

For the longest time we mowed about 165 acres with a JD 820 and a 5' mower. How long did it take? .... forever. It was probably a lot less than 2 acres an hour. We have had a couple of newer tractors since then (still got the JD 820) but we still don't have a mower bigger than 7'.

Used to take care of about 8 acres of horse pasture with a 5' mower. Now doing 3 acres of fields around my house. Takes about 2 hours.

For more than 14 years I've been mowing about 60-70 acres with a 5' House shreader and a 25 HP tractor. I only hit most of it once a year to keep the cedar and wild plums out.

Lets see we have six acres of grass that's better described as pasture plus I mow two acres for my elderly neighbor. I can do it all in roughly 2 hours. Depends though, if I get real comfortable on the New Holland sometimes it takes a LOT longer. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
