I put a small stick that looks like a toothpick through one of my rear tires this weekend. Not sure when it happened as it was a slow leak, but by the time I was half way home it was obvious something was wrong. When I inspected the tire, I found the twig.

I would like to keep the stock rims and I would prefer not to go wider with the tires. I ride in dense woods, and keeping the vehicle as narrow as possible is important.

Is there a good tire which will stand up to sharp sticks, brush and thorns. Most of my riding is at pretty slow speed through brush, very little mud, and very very few rocks. Any thoughts?

Also, I was wondering whether it is worth trying to repair it. A plug is easy enough, and I saw that slime stuff as well fix-a-flat. Has anyone tried slime or fixaflat in one of these tires?

Duke,

I would propose you put slime in that (and the other 3) tires to start.
It should fill that hole and probably the next 100 just like it.

Yes by all means go for the slime. I live along the Whitewater River and the woods between my pasture and the river are full of thorny locust and hedge. I would be fixing flats all the time if not for slime. I have a Polaris 500. Sometimes I will see little green things sticking up from the tire, where the Slime has done its job. I buy Slime from Tractor Supply, it is $20 a gal., about half what other stores charge.

In your area you may want to consider a different tire sealant other than Slime. Slime will freeze inside your tires, there are brands out there that will not freeze as quickly as Slime. Also if you read the container Slime recommends you change it every 2 years, there are other brands available that are good for the life of your tires. I am not sure if slime will harm the rims or not but that is something you want to check also. The unfortunate thing here is that Slime is the cheapest of any tire sealant.

The stuff I use is Here, either the "Off Road" or "Agri-Seal" is good stuff.

I had a flat right away with my Rhino. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif I almost immediately then went with 27" Bighorn Radials on it and have never had one since. I've run over plenty of thorns, corn stalks, and stalks from where I've bush hogged shrubs and bushes without any problem. I'd have to say that the Bighorns are much more durable than the factory tires. I also have the Bighorns on my RTV. I also was constantly fighting the battle of having to air up the tires before I drove it. Not any more! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I probably just jinxed myself, but I haven't had a flat on either since going with the Bighorns.

Dargo, do you use the same size tires on all 4 rims, or do you use narrow tires up front and wide in back. Also, do you use any offsets?

Thanks.
