Being a lifelong gearhead, love these trips down (automotive) memory lane.
"Most stylish car of '50s"...hands-down, Raymond Loewy-designed '53 Studebaker. Favorite is another story...my personal is Harley Earl-designed '54 Buick Skylark...
Those "automatic levelling" '55-'56 Packards had torsion bar suspension...front and rear, unlike front-only Chrysler starting in '57. Bars ran full length of car. Electric motors rotated bars to keep car trimmed.
Had to chuckle..."Turnip Crusher" for '57 Merc Turnpike Cruiser...loved power back glass and air inlets in upper A-pillars. Classy car from time when US automakers would build exclusive models...
Back to Buicks...Portholes '49-'57...Buick called 'em "Venti-Ports." 4-holers were "Roadmasher"
and '54-'57 Century. Special and Super were 3-holers. Buicks between '31 and '52 were straight 8s (no sixes) with V8 (Super, Roadmaster) starting in '53...all V8 in '54.
