I think that how people are using their PTs "flavors" their views and impressions of the PT, at least somewhat. IMO, that's because the PT is naturally better at some tasks than others...

So, I'd ask that you "rank" your implements, from most-used to least-used, with the most-used at the top of the list. I think that could be valuable in understanding where our views are "coming from." I'll start.

1. Grapple bucket
2. Mini-hoe
3. LM bucket
4. Brush-cutter
5. Snow/dirt blade
6. Rake (modified Howse)
7. Box blade (modified KK)
8. HD rock bucket -- mostly use grapple bucket instead
9. Finish mower -- never really used, only test driven

Wow! I didn't realize I had so many attachments! I usually just think of the additional ones I want, or the mods to these (such as welding on receiver hitch) that I want to make...

1. Finish Mower
2. Brush Mower
3. Forks
4. LM Bucket
5. Dump Trailer (non PT)
6. Power Dibble / Towing Adapter (home built)
7. Boom Mower (newish)

Rather than weld one on, you could do what I did. I took a 1 1/4 inch receiver, cut off the excess length, and drilled a hole in it for the PT's pin. It fits between the two pin flanges.

I also welded a piece of angle stock across the rear of it, which keeps it from pivoting. The angle stock lays flat againt the back of the PT when the receiver is pinned in place. With this setup, I have the best of both worlds. The pin is a great place to attach rear tie-downs when trailering the PT. Other than that, I usually leave the hitch receiver pinned in place with a 2" ball and adapter in place, but if I ever do need to tow something with a pin hitch, I still have it.

Sorry, I don't have a photo handy.

I wanted a lawn mower that could do other duty. Surprisingly, I use the buckets more than the mowers. A powered wheelbarrow comes to mind. :)

But I do mow for 25 minutes once a week. Brush hog a few hours 2-3 times a year, plow snow when mother nature feels like it, etc...

Funny things about a PT... you can switch implements so fast that it is nothing to do 5 or 10 different chores in a day that you would never consider doing with a 3pt hitch tractor. I mean, really, how many 3pt tractors allow you to mow the lawn, brush hog some trails, move logs with forks, dig some post holes, dig out some bushes with the mini-hoe, aerate the lawn, move some mulch with the bucket, grapple a brush pile, etc... all in one day. It just cannot be done with a conventional tractor. You time is used very efficiently with these things and you never hesitate to pop on a different implement.:D

I would have to rank my attachments for frequency of use as follows:

1. Rock bucket
2. Dump trailer (Non PT)
3. Tow adapter
4. Tooth Bar (Non PT)
5. Mini hoe
6. Brush Mower
7. Rake (modified Howse)
8. PHD
9. Ripper (with tow adapter plate)
10. Trench bucket (home made)
11. Boom

And for only two grand, you could have had one of these.

I have the following...

Bucket with Grapple and Toothbar (most used)
90" rough cut mower with custom blades
Back Hoe
Back Hoe boom
Tree spade (made it myself)
Pallet Forks
Rake head for Back Hoe Boom
Box Blade

Funny enough, the box blade has been the least productive for me and the hardest to learn to use correctly.

The back hoe boom is a PITA to attach and detach so its use is pretty limited right now, but I also broke the rake head so...

What I'm thinking of is welding a receiver hitch onto one of my buckets -- likely the HD rock bucket unless I cut it up and make something else out of it...

I'd like the receiver on the bucket for two reasons:

1. To prevent using a QA plate just for a front trailer hitch for moving my trailers around, and

2. Put it on the bucket so I can use a cradle-mounted hydraulic winch at some point (when it makes it to the top of "Toys Most Wanted" list) and have weight of the load pull the bucket into to the ground to provide more resistance. I'd like to angle the bucket, and let the leading edge and teeth help serve as an anchor into the ground, rather than the load on the winch dragging the PT all over the place.

I was ready to do that to the HD rock bucket, until I got to thinking about cutting it into pieces and making two things out of it, instead. (I don't use it now that I have a grapple bucket with teeth and a LM bucket for hauling stuff).

1. I've thought of cutting each end off the HD rock bucket at about the QA plate, then welding new ends on it, perhaps at an angle to see if that would work as a narrow "grubbing bucket" for making shallow ditches, perhaps digging up shrubs to transplant, etc.

2. Then, taking the ends that I've cut off, welding them together with some reinforcement at the seam, and making a wide bucket for the minihoe so I could use it more like a GradeAll, to clean out ditches and smooth and shape the roadbanks on my driveway, landscape between trees and shrubs, etc. I'd like a wide bucket, 18" to 24" -- not to dig holes with, but to "hoe" with like a manual hoe... set it down, put pressure on it and pull...

We'll see! Meanwhile I have a spare QA plate and a step-bumper receiver sitting in my garage, waiting to see what gets welded where...

Dear Ken,

I can't wait to see the Grade-All like rotational attachment. Photos please!!

All the best,

I agree with having a hitch receiver front and rear. I find having one on both ends very, very useful.

I added one to my power dibble, which is nothing more than a QA plate with the business end of a planting bar welded to the bottom. I welded the receiver to the face of the QA plate, and I just rotate the QA to the horizontal position to fold the dibble up out of the way and position the receiver toward the front. It works fine.

Attached are a couple of shots of my removable rear receiver in use.

-finish mower
-LM bucket
-grapple bucket
-brush mower
-mini-hoe
-forks
-snow blade...have used some for grading as well

It seems like we go in spurts....sometimes the grapple gets used hard for several weeks...if we're dropping tree's, then maybe a few hard weeks on the brush mower. The finish mower is used 2 hours a week, the LM bucket is used weekly as well, especially during the mulching season.

During Nice Weather:

1. 4 in 1 Bucket
2. Mini-Hoe
3. Blade

During Not-So-Nice Weather:

1. Blade
2. 4 in 1 Bucket (REALLY Deep Snow)

Mini-Hoe not used at all during the winter.

Obviously, I need more attachments; this is a pretty lame list!
